I woke up the next morning to voices. I opened my eyes and saw that everyone and I mean everyone standing in my room. I pulled myself up and listened to them speak.
"Have you seen the baby he is so cute? He has Kelly's mouth and AJ's eyes," Shannah explained.
"I know Shannah I know, I saw the baby too," Howie said.
"What's going on here?" I asked.
"We're just talking about the baby," Jessica said.
Just then AJ walked in with the nurse and the baby. Everyone oohed and aahed as they walked over to me. I took the baby from the nurse and everyone crowded around me. Little Alexander was waking up. As soon as he opened his eyes he began to cry.
"How cute," Hazel said.
"And loud," AJ laughed.
"He is hungry," the nurse said.
"I think that's our cue to go get a soda or something," Brian said.
"Yeah," Dominique said.
Everyone left the room including the nurse, leaving just AJ and me. I pulled my shirt down and lifted the baby up to feed. This was the most special moment ever between AJ, the baby, and me. AJ took the baby's hand and he wrapped his little fingers around AJ's finger.
"He's so strong," AJ commented.
"He is," I said smiling down at the baby.
"He is just so small," AJ said.
"Six pounds eight ounces," I said.
Shortly after his feeding Alexander went back to sleep. Just as he went to sleep everyone returned.
"He's asleep," I said.
"Damn," Shannah said.
"I wanted to hold him," Hazel said.
"You can, but don't wake him up," I smiled. I handed him over to Hazel all the while telling her to support his little head. AJ and I lay back on my bed watching every move Hazel made. Just then the doctor walked in. He took one look at all my visitors and began to laugh.
"Looks like there's a party going on here," he commented.
"Yeah and Alexander is the guest of honor," Nick joked.
"Did you have something to say doctor?" I asked.
"Yes, you're scheduled to check out tomorrow around 9 a.m. Just pick up your vitamins and you are free to go," he said.
After the doctor left AJ's mom said, "Hospitals these days won't even let you have time to recuperate."
"I know what you are saying they want you in and out like a drive thru," my mom said.
Everyone stayed with me for another hour or so and then they all left. They had to get ready to return to Dallas as soon as possible. AJ and I were curled up on my bed watching TV.
"You have to leave tomorrow, right?" I asked.
"Yes, we have to leave as early as possible to make it back to Dallas in time for the concert. I'll only be able to take you home and then I'll have to leave."
"I'll miss you," I said.
"I'll miss you and my son too," he said.
The next day I was wheeled out of Kaiser Permanente and driven to my house. I carried the baby inside and laid him down in his crib. I walked AJ to the door and said goodbye.
"Enjoy your concert," I said.
"I will now that I know I have a son," AJ said. He kissed me goodbye and told me he loved me.
"I love you too," I said watching him as the van full of Backstreet Boys drove off.
About a few weeks later it dawned on me that I had maternity leave from school and work. All I had to do was watch my taped classes and do my work at home. And since I wasn't doing anything in L.A. I decided to fly down to Florida and stay with AJ awhile. I knew he was due for some down time anyway. So wanting to surprise him I booked a ticket for the baby and me on the next flight out to Florida. Once again I had rented a 4 door Civic, but had brought a car seat with me. I pulled up in front of AJ's house and lifted a sleeping Alexander into my arms. AJ would be so surprised to see me I thought as I unlocked and opened the front door. I walked through the hallway and a vase of roses caught my eye. I opened the note attached to them and almost dropped Alexander. The note read and I quote "Thanks for being so nice about my denting your Mercedes. I really appreciate you letting me make you dinner the other night. Love, Alicia."
I crumpled the note in my hand and threw it across the hall. I walked towards the door intent upon leaving like I had never come, but then I changed my mind. Who the hell did AJ think he was! Calmly, I took Alexander into the den and laid him on his blanket on the floor. That pig!! I had known AJ was a lady's man and a flirt, but I guess you can never teach a dog new tricks.
"And to think I had actually had that man's son. Speaking of little Xander he isn't even two months old and his father is picking up women," I ranted to myself.
I walked upstairs and threw the door open leading to AJ's bedroom. I walked in and what I saw near took my breath away. AJ was laying face down in the bed, but get this he wasn't alone. Lying right next to him was a pretty redhead, a pretty NAKED redhead. I knew then that she was Alicia. I walked into the bathroom and filled a cup of water. I stood at the foot of the bed and threw it on AJ. He jumped up yelling, but stopped when he saw me.
"What the FUCK and I do mean FUCK is going on here Bone?" I yelled.
"Oh shit," AJ said jumping out of the bed in his boxers.
"Exactly, who is she?" I asked.
Alicia got out of the bed and wrapped a sheet around her body. "AJ, who the fuck is this bitch?" she asked.
I could hear AJ groaning because he knew what I was going to do next.
"Oh I have your bitch," I said and punched her right in the cheek. Alicia stumbled back, tripped over her sheet, fell onto the bed, and rolled over falling off the other side of the bed. It was almost comical how she knocked over the nightstand and broke the vase that was on top of it. I walked over to her stack of clothes, picked them up with one hand, and then grabbed her by the hair with the other.
"Ow, let go," Alicia screamed.
"Not until you are out of this house," I said. I drug her down the stairs and pushed her out the house throwing her clothes to her.
"Get off this property and take that shitty ass car with you," I yelled slamming the door. I turned around and there was AJ.
"Kelly, let me explain," he said.
I didn't know what to do, I felt like I was on fire. Then an idea came to me. I walked over to him and kneed him in the crotch. AJ bent over in pain and I punched him in the jaw. I stepped over his body and went to get my son. This was the last straw. AJ Mclean and Kelly Scott were no more.
