"I don't know why I let you talk me into coming here," AJ growled.
"You needed to get out of the house instead of sitting there moping around over Kelly," Kevin said.
"But I enjoy moping," AJ said.
"This place is live tonight," Howie said.
"Yeah," Nick added.
"Wait a minute, is that my Jessi?" Brian asked.
They all looked over to where he pointed and sure enough there was Jessica dancing.
"And Domi too," Kevin said.
"What the heck?" Nick said.
"Why are our women here without us?" Howie asked.
"I have no idea," AJ said dryly.
"Who is that fine ass girl with them in silver?" Nick asked aloud.
They all studied the woman in silver that was dancing to the deep house song playing. AJ noticed how fine she was too and for some reason she reminded him of Kelly. At the same time everyone realized that that woman dancing was Kelly. They all looked at AJ waiting to see what he would do next.
"I'm going to kill her," AJ growled walking over to her.
I was in my own world dancing to the deep house and hard core songs that were being played when all of a sudden a scuffle erupts behind me. I turn around and there's AJ in the face of the man I was dancing with.
"Leave her alone," AJ said.
"I don't see her complaining," the man said.
"She's mine so hands off," AJ said.
"And if I say no?" he taunted.
"Then I'm going to knock your ass out," AJ threatened pushing the man away.
"Stop," I said jumping in between them. I faced the man I had been dancing with and apologized.
"Yeah, I'll catch you later girl AFTER you dump your little bodyguard," he said to me.
AJ took me by the waist to the bar. I snatched myself away from him and said, "Who the hell do you think you are?"
"I'm AJ Mclean."
"And I suppose that makes it alright for you to beat on people huh?" I taunted.
"Why the hell are you out here dressed to kill in that body hugging suit?" AJ demanded.
"Having a good time," I said ordering a ginger ale.
"I could see that that one guy was having a good time staring at your ass," he said.
I took a sip of my soda and said, "Piss off AJ." I walked away from him past all the arguing couples and into the restroom. I wiped the sweat from off my face and returned to the dance floor. For the rest of the night AJ managed to but in on each and every one of my dances. Finally I broke down and we had another argument on the dance floor. It would have gotten us attention hadn't the music been playing loudly. Not wanting to hear another word AJ had to say I turned my back on him. Just then Kelly Price's "Friend of Mine" came on. I don't know if anyone has heard that song, but if you haven't its very powerful. Just as the tears began to fall I felt AJ come up behind me and wrap me in his arms turning me around to face him. I didn't lift my head so now my nose was on the same level as his mouth.
We stood there dancing to that bomb song. I made the mistake of looking up and into AJ's eyes. I quickly looked down, but it was too late. His lips met mine and I started to cry. My left hand reached up and caressed AJ's face. He kissed me hungrily and I returned his kisses. I broke the kiss and whispered brokenly, "I love you so much."
I pulled away from him and walked over to where Jessica and Shannah were sitting.
"What happened?" they asked.
I looked up and noticed AJ was watching me from across the room as Brian said something in his ear. "Nothing," I said breathing shakily and reaching for a napkin to fan myself. What could I say, AJ was making me hot like fire? The night ended with all of us going home pretty happy. The next morning I went and picked up Xander from AJ's mom's house and returned home.
"Come with me to the supermarket?" Jessica asked.
"Why?" I asked.
"We're having a barbecue in Xander's sake and I need to buy some food," Jessica explained.
"All right," I said.
When we returned Brian was firing up the barbecue. By the time 12:00 rolled around half the food was ready and everyone was arriving. Everyone was including AJ that is. I stayed away from AJ, but he just had to seek me out. Everyone was still in the living room when I had gone into the kitchen to get some more napkins and drinks. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who it was.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I want to talk to you."
"Go ahead and talk."
"I didn't sleep with that woman. I was driving one day and she came out of nowhere and bumped my blue Mercedes."
"And she offered to pay for it with dinner and sex?" I asked.
"No, she paid for it to get it fixed. She felt so guilty about the accident that she offered to make me dinner as an apology. I couldn't very well tell her no," AJ explained.
"And why not? You have a son a son that may I add was fresh out of the hospital. You should've thought of the consequences before going to dinner with her," I yelled slapping napkins on the counter.
"Kelly, I didn't have sex with her. All of us went to a club and she was there. I drank a little too much and when I couldn't find Brian, who was my ride there, she offered to take me home. I accepted and that's the last thing I remember."
"So you don't really know for sure if you didn't sleep with her or not?" I asked quietly.
"I didn't sleep with her," AJ said.
"We still have nothing to talk about."
"Kelly let's talk about this."
"Talk about what!! You were caught butt naked in the bed with a woman whom you had gone to dinner with the night before. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you claim to love me and you still went out with another woman!" I yelled.
I could see that everyone was coming in the kitchen. I did not want an audience to this. I was already angry, as I didn't know what and I didn't need anyone trying to tell me what I should feel. "Kelly, if you would just calm down we could talk about this rationally," AJ suggested.
"Rationally!? Screw rationally!" I yelled grabbing a butcher knife out of the cinder block. I chased AJ around the counter with it.
"Oh shit," I heard Nick say.
"Oh my God she's going to cut him," Shannah said.
"I don't think so," Kevin said reaching over and snatching the knife out of my hand.
"Fine, I've had enough of this I'm eating," I said.
I led everyone into the backyard where we nervously ate. There was almost an hour of silence before conversation picked up again. I sat down near Shannah and Howie eating my food and thinking about how screwed up my life was. Here I was an unwed mother and the baby's father couldn't keep his hands off women. Shannah leaned over to me and said in my ear "What would it take to forgive AJ? Maybe she climbed into bed with him Kelly. I mean he is AJ from the Backstreet Boys."
"I don't know what it would take."
The rest of the day passed fine enough as did the next day. I was walking around the house looking for Xander's pacifier when the phone rang.
