Brian looked around frantically, watching for the doctors or a nurse to come out and tell him Abby was alright. On the way over, the ambulance had lost Abby's heart beat twice but got it going. When they arrived they wheeled Abby into the ER and wouldn't let Brian in. He begged and pleaded to go with her but the doctors said it would be best if he waited outside with the others. Kevin put a supportive arm around Brian and looked at his tear stained cheeks. Kevin silently prayed that Abby would make it. The doctor came out of the swinging doors. Brian jumped up and the others followed him over.
"How is she?!?!" He frantically asked.
The doctor took a deep breath. "Well...she lost a lot of blood and there has been extensive damage to some organs from the bullet."
Brian started crying again. "What does that mean?!?"
Nick put a supportive hand on Brian's shoulder. "Let him talk Brian."
"I don't want to here all this bull shit! Tell me if she will live or if she will die!" He sobbed.
"We have to operate to try to stop the bleeding inside her. We're taking her to the OR right now." The doctor told them.
"Please let me see her." Brian begged. "Just for a second."
The doctor nodded and motioned for Brian to follow him. He walked quickly behind him. When they walked into the room Brian's heart sunk. There was Abby, laying on a bed with tubes sticking out of her everywhere. A monitor beeped, showing her heartbeat.
"You can only have a second with her Mr. Littrell. We have to operate as soon as possible." The doctor left to give him a minute with her.
Brian walked over and took her cold hand in his and began to cry once again. "I am so sorry Abby. This is all my fault. If I hadn't asked you to come on this tour you would be safe in your apartment right now. I should've protected you better. Look what I've done! Abby you have to live so I can make this up to you sweety." Brian kissed her hand gently. "Abby I need you. You mean everything in this world to me. Please fight for us and for yourself."
The doctor came back in. "We have to take her now."
"I Love You Abby." Brian whispered into her ear. He watched as they wheeled her out of the room. He fell on to his knees his face turning white. He prayed, "Please God, watch over her and protect her. Be with her through this and please don't take her away. It isn't her time. Please."
3 HOURS LATER.....
Nick looked over at Brian who was staring blankly off into space with a look of dread and at the same time hope in his eyes. Nick turned his head to look at Sarah who was sitting next to him with her head on his shoulder. She had stopped crying and was now almost falling asleep. Howie walked over to Nick.
"I'm gonna run to the cafeteria quick. Do you or Sarah want anything?" Howie asked.
Nick shook his head. "No thank you." He whispered so he wouldn't stir Sarah.
He couldn't believe this was happening. Hours before they were all laughing and having fun and now Abby might die. He never felt this horrible in his whole entire life. Nick wanted to say something comforting to Brian but he didn't know what to say to him. Nick heard Sarah whimper once again and looked at her face.
"It's going to be ok Sarah." Nick wrapped his arms around her.
She cried. "She is my best friend. I can't lose my best friend Nick. You and her are all I have."
Nick stroked the back of her head. "SSHH, it's going to be okay."
Sarah cried and put her head on Nick's shoulder. "You don't know that."
Just then the doctor came back.
Everyone once more jumped up and walked over to him.
"Well..." Brian said.
"The surgery was a success." The doctor informed them. "We patched up everything that was ripped or torn from the bullet of the gun. The bleeding has slowly begun to stop and everything is looking fine Mr. Littrell."
Brian smiled and jumped into the air. "ALRIGHT!" He hugged Kevin.
"You can go into see her, but just one at a time please."
Brian looked at the others and they smiled and nodded. He ran down the hallway to Abby's room.
"Nick I'm so happy." Sarah hugged him and then AJ came over and got in on the hug and pretty soon...AJ, Sarah, Nick, Howie, and Kevin were all in a big group hug.
Brian slowly opened the door to Abby's room and stood in the doorway. She was lying with a tube coming out of her mouth still with the monitor beeping, echoing in Brian's brain. Brian couldn't cut the number of IVs they had in her. He pulled a chair next to her bed and carefully took her hand in his again. He gently kissed it.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open and she smiled when she saw Brian. Tears of happiness sprung to Brian's eyes. He didn't think he'd get to see that smile again. She couldn't speak because of the tube in her mouth.
"I love you so much Abby. I thought I was going to lose you. But I never lost faith in you. I knew you would pull through." Brian stared at her through his tears. "I am so sorry for all this. It's all my fault that all this happened."
Abby moaned and shooked her head no.
"I promise you Abby, I will never let anything like this happen again. I promise to take better care of you." Abby squeezed his hand. They remained like that together for the rest of the night.
