"Ohmigod," AJ whispered as their eyes met.
"It IS you!!!" Misty exclaimed. She threw her arms around his neck as he enveloped her into a huge bear hug. He picked her up and spun her.
"Misty!!! I can't believe it's really you!" Tears spilled from both their eyes as they embraced each other. They were both silent for awhile just standing, crying, and hugging. They both had dreamed of this moment, but they never thought this one dream would ever come true. After a few minutes they parted.
"Wow," Misty said. "This is all pretty overwhelming!" They laughed.
"Very..." AJ replied trailing off. He still couldn't believe Misty was standing in front of him.
"Gee, we gotta a lotta catching up to do!" she said excitedly. They settled down on the couch on opposite sides in the living room type room. Once again, they were quiet.
"Can I ask you a question?" AJ asked. He wanted to get straight to the point.
"Anything Alex!"
"Uhm, why were you at the bar? And why were dressed like... like uh..."
"Like a slut?" Misty supplied.
"Well yea you could call it that..."
She suddenly got nervous. She didn't think he would ask so soon. Misty then went on to explain what had happened starting from the day she left about 12 years ago. She told him of what her mother had done to her and of what she had succumbed to ever since she was 16. She told him about all the times she was abused and literally tortured by the many men she was forced to sleep with. By the end of her story she was weeping on AJ's shoulder with his arm securely around her trying to comfort her.
"Aw, baby it's alright... Shhh, Misty. It's all over now. No one's going to hurt you anymore... You're safe. I'm here... I'll protect you. Shhh, baby... I won't let anyone hurt you and take you away from me again," AJ whispered, trying to console her. She buried her face into his neck and cried more while he rubbed her back and stroked her hair. She soon quieted down.
"I... I'm sorry for breaking down like this."
"No, Misty, it's ok. You cry all you want. I'm here for you," AJ said sincerely, brushing away a few tears. "If this was so hard to say, you didn't have to tell me."
"I had to. If I didn't, it just wouldn't feel right. I didn't want you to think I was some kind of slut. I'm not... I'm not..." Misty stuttered.
"I know Mist, I know. You're not! Please don't blame this all on yourself. It was never your fault, sweetie," AJ consoled.
"B... but..."
"No but's hun. C'mon, it's late. You need some sleep." He gently picked her up off the couch because she was so weak and placed her on the soft bed. AJ pulled the covers over her as she settled in.
"We didn't get to finish catching up though," Misty protested while yawning. He went around and hopped in on the other side.
"See you are sleepy! Anyway, we can catch up tomorrow. Now we've got our entire lives to get to know each other," AJ said. He lay on his side facing her with his head leaning on his hand. She snuggled up against him. Barely awake, she whispered, "Thank you Alex..." He smiled.
"You're welcome, Mist," he whispered back. AJ leaned over and turned off the lights then went back to his long lost best friend. Her shallow breathing indicated that she had already fallen asleep. The moonlight shined on her from the open balcony doors. He tenderly brushed a few stray strands of hair away from her eyes. She had a peaceful smile on her face. He smiled also wondering what she was dreaming of. He lay his head on the pillow and draped his arm around her. He never wanted to let her go. AJ leaned over and kissed her softly on her forehead. "G'night M... I love you," he whispered into her ear and fell into a dream-filled sleep.
