[[ The Shadows Words ]]

Chapter 2

A small wooden chair, a simple lamp and a table complemented the dark corner, and not far away was a single mattress. The only furniture she could afford and could get hold of. The apartment was small in size, not as big as her last. She wasn't complaining though. Removing her fragile glasses away from her face, Jessie crouched down and laid herself on the bed. She closed her eyes and began humming. That's when the voices began, the pictures went into motion, her body jerking ever so slightly. They were telling her something, warning her once again. The force had come back, it was out to destroy. Who she asked fluttering her unexposed eyes. An image of a boy flashed through her mind feeding her with the information she had requested. Her body froze for a slight second then relaxed as she drifted off into a deep sleep.

The morning dawned. Jessie was already out on the balcony, traditionally watching the sun peak over the buildings. The city had not begun to stir. She took one more glance, then walked back inside. A frail knapsack sat in the corner filled with her possessions. Picking it up she swing it over her shoulder and left her enclosure, wanting to explore her new surroundings and most importantly, she had to try and find the future victim of the shadow.

Jessie caught sight of the lonely looking newspaper stand. Glancing both ways she stepped on the gravel of the road and walked across. An old man was bent over the papers, stacking them and altering their position, slowly but steadily. She coughed unnerved to gain the man's attention. He turned around and smiled revealing a set of rotten teeth. She picked up a paper, paid the man and walked off.

As she approached the park, she noticed that the city had slowly become alive. Finding a quiet spot, Jessie sat down on the mildew soaked chair. The paper was now spread across her knees as she began scanning through every page. Every picture on every page was examined carefully. The pictures in her mind had told her that this boy was looked up to, was someone rarely seen strolling around on the street. She put the paper away. Creasing the centre and sliding it inbetween a crack in the opening of my bag. Jessie knew where she had to go now, she had to go to the place where the teenagers went to purchase amusement. Not the hooker bar, just the local newsagency.

She walked inside the fairly air conditioned store. Making her way straight to the section all the teenage girls began hyperventilating and breaking into a sweat from the sight of a half naked picture of her "future" husbands. Jessie cringed at the thought. Picking up a magazine heavy in weight, she scanned the front cover. A picture of the grinning Creek kids. And you'd think they were all going to drown in the creek of depression. She thought to herself. Her finger slipped under the front cover and turned to the next page. Jessie's eyes instantly forced themselves shut and the pictures vigorously flashed through her mind, she let out a little cry. The magazine fell through her fingers and her eyes then suddenly flew open and she returned to the magazine which was on a crumpled heap on the floor. The lady at the counter had her eyes firmly fixed on Jessie, watching her every move with wonder and curiosity.

Jessie resumed to the page, the page which featured the boy of her destined future. She had found him. It was now time to protect the victim. The victim that went under the name of AJ McLean.
