CÉLINE DION BIOGRAPHY
There's no shortage of hyperbole
when describing the meteoric rise of Céline Dion's career. Barely
four years ago Céline Dion was a virtual unknown outside of her
native province of Québec, today she is an international superstar
with sales of her first two English language albums numbering in the millions
throughout the world.
In Canada alone, she has sold over
several million albums both French and English. Her debut English language
album, "Unison" yielded four Top 10 singles and sold over 400,000
records. Céline captured Juno Awards that year for "Female
Vocalist of the Year" and "Album of the Year" for "Unison".
She followed that release album
with a tribute album to Quebec songwriter Luc Plamondon called "Dion
Chante Plamondon". It went double platinum overnight in Quebec, but
also enjoyed considerable sales in English Canada as well.
Céline's international breakthrough
came with the soundtrack to the animated Disney hit movie "Beauty
and the Beast". The song went number one and garnered an Academy Award
for "Best Song". "Beauty and the Beast" formed the
cornerstone for Celine's second English language album called simply, "Celine
Dion". That album produced five hit singles including "Love Can
Move Mountains", "Water From the Moon", "If You Asked
Me To", "Did You Give Enough Love" and "Beauty and
the Beast", which also earned Céline a Grammy Award. In Canada,
the album went six times platinum and continues to dominate radio airwaves.
The woman who was once Québec's
best kept secret has now appeared on the Academy Awards, twice at the Grammy's,
twice at the American Music Awards and countless times on the Tonight Show
(she is a personal favorite of host Jay Leno). Last year she hosted the
Juno Awards and won for the third consecutive year, "Female Vocalist
of the Year".
"The Colour of My Love"
is her third English language record. The anticipation for this release
had been building with the success of the soundtrack to the hit film, "Sleepless
in Seattle", for which Céline sang the theme song, "When
I Fall in Love". That album has gone double platinum in the U.S. and
platinum here in Canada.
"The Colour of My Love",
teams Céline Dion with some of the best songwriters and producers
of the day, many of whom have worked successfully with Céline before.
"The Colour of My Love" includes songs written by David Foster,
Dianne Warren, Phil Goldstone, A.A. Robertson, Ric Wake and Jennifer Rush.
The songs on the album were produced by old friend David Foster, Ric Wake,
Guy Roche, Christopher Neil, Walter Afanasieff, Steve Lindsay, Aldo Nova
and Humberto Gatica.
Celine Dion's star continues
to rise while her Canadian roots remain firm.
