William Thomas Berry was born July 31, 1958 in Duluth, Minnesota.  No where near Georgia if your slow on geography.  Shortly after, his family moved to Wauwatoa, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee.

When Bill was ten, he heard an announcement during lunch for band tryouts.  Well, of course, he went and went for the drum.  That's why I like Bill.  Because at that exact same age I chose the drum also.  My claim to fame, I can play part of Pilgrimage on the quads. I think he's great in that song.  Not that the others are bad, but that's one of my favorites.

The Berry family moved to Macon Georgia in 1972.  Soon after Bill began his high school career.

Bill fell a bit downward in high school by drinking, goofing off, and just being the stereotypical teenager of the seventies.  This is where he met Mike Mills.  Bill wasn't too fond of Mike.  Actually he was a bit jealous.  Mike was everything Bill wasn't.  Smart, showed up for class sober and so forth.  Rather nerdy shall I say.  As a matter of fact I still think he looks nerdy today.  But then again, so do I.

Bill left R.E.M. ~ Bill quit the band on October 30, 1997.  He said he was tired of what he was doing.  He had been playing for seventeen years and he wanted to try something new.  What it is, he doesn't know yet.  He just wants to float aimlessly for awhile. We will all miss Bill, but, I'm not going to mourn over him.  I expect bill to make several guest appearance in R.E.M over the next few years but I doubt he will make a full comeback.  I am looking forward with high hopes of the three legged dog.
