Piece Of Mind

After just four albums released, Iron Maiden had achieved three things:  established a settled line up (for them: this new line up, with Nicko McBrain joining the ranks), led the NWOBHM to become the most popular  Heavy Metal band on the planet, and matured their sound to introduce a new level of melody and diversity and yet retaining that quintessential Iron Maiden sound.

Piece Of Mind also introduced that now firmly established favourite element of an Iron Maiden album, the epic: in this case, it is To Tame A Land, a shortned version of Frank Herbert's "Dune".

Also, the lyrical content of this album was far more varied, with religion and humility (Revelations), war (The Trooper), commitment and loyalty (Die With Your Boots On)  and Greek legends and deception (Flight Of Icarus) all covered as well as the abridged Dune, all on one album! Musically, lyrically, and in any other way conceivable Iron Maiden had matured and taken their rightful crown as Kings of Heavy Metal
