STREET TALK!

On making it at home

We've had a really good run for the last three years, travelling around the world having success in each place, little by little. It hasn't happened overnight, and you know, it's like the last stop, coming home. I think it means a lot to anybody to be successful in their own country, just 'cos all your friends and family can finally see what it's about - that's great.

On the last time he asked somebody out...

I met this girl at a video shoot in LA, eight or nine months ago. I rang her a couple of days later when I flew to the UK to do a tour - and she was really shocked! She didn't think I was gonna call her! Nothing came of it, apart from a couple of phone conversations. I ran into her in LA when we were out there, but we're just friends. She's an actress and y'know, I can't do it.

On being really ill...

When I went into hospital for my heart surgery, it was hard on the whole band. Some people thought I might never recover properly, but I have. It's been a weird year for us, and only those close to us saw the highs and lows.

On how it's changed him...

The other day I was talking with Kevin and he was saying he thinks I've changed the most over the last year. He thinks I've got more serious - not in a boring way, but I tend to think more about the future and stuff.

On the new tour

It will be a complete Millenium experience! As soon as you walk into the arena you'll see and hear things which fit in with the show.

HOWIE

On being emotional...

As a kid, whenever my older brothers and sisters got into trouble and cried, I'd always end up crying along with them 'cos it'd upset me so much. My sister once told me she used to cry on purpose, just to make me blub!

On chatting to fans on the internet...

We've now trying to do a little bit of chatting on the internet and stuff like that. I've just bought a computer so I'm going to get more into that and try to communicate more with the fans. But in the meantime, we have our fan clubs to keep everybody in touch with what's happening.

On spending his hard earned riches...

I've bought my first car - that was my own personal thing. But for the most part, I've been pretty much helping my family, fixing up our house, getting central heating, having the floors redone... I wanted to think about my family first, but now I can look out for myself a little.

On posing naked for a saucy magazine...

I couldn't go all the way - I'm a little selective about who I want to show everything to! I mean, these are the pictures the whole world's gonna see!

On missing the guys when they're not together...

I noticed it when I went to South America last year - that's when it really hit me, the loneliness of not having the other four guys around. When the five of us are together, we're like brothers and we look out for each other. That takes away a lot of the loneliness.

On going solo...

That'll happen sometime in the future, but not any time soon. I won't be doing anything with my brother or sister 'cos they're doing their own things. Maybe I'll do something on the technical side, producing or writing... but no right now.

On growing up...

We're all getting older and more grown up. I'm not the same 13-yearold I was when we started. We're all growing up and our music's growing older, too. The music will change a little bit at a time, but not too much 'cos things are going great - they're really good right now.

On the book his mum wrote about his life...

She decided to write down the story of my childhood and describe my early beginnings in this business. It's called The Heart And Soul Of Nick Carter. It sold out immediately when it was released in the States last November! I think it's great that mum's getting some recognition.

On photoshoots...

Having your photograph taken is like acting - when the photographer tells you to smile, and sometimes you're not feeling in a good mood, you have to find the strenght from deep inside. Shoots can be fun too, 'cos sometimes they make you do weird things!

On being a heartthrob...

Some days I wake up feeling really yuck! I look in the mirror and the last thing I feel is 'heartthrobby'. I'm really honoured people see me in that light, but I don't understand it!

KEVIN

On fans getting rough...

Sometimes the fans take articles off your body - I've had a necklace ripped off and once I had a ring taken off my finger. It was really sentimental to me and I was like, 'Please, whoever took my ring, please give it back!' Then our security guy, Randy, made an announcement that if someone gave it back they'd get backstage passes - and fortunately they did!

On singing lead vocals...

On the album we all sing a verse in Show Me The Meaning. It's really cool song. I've got a really mature voice and it takes a certain sort of song. I really like that Robbie song, Angels - I love singing it. It suits my voice and it's my style. It's really neat!

On modelling for Versace...

I was very flattered. There were all these beautiful people there, and they asked me! I was nervous about falling, but, I did fine!

On being lonely...

We have each other, but it can get lonely. The worst times are then you're lying in your hotel bed late at night and you wish you had someone to cuddle and watch TV with you...

On his favourite place...

It's back home in the mountains in Kentucky. My father used to work in a National Park, so we were right out in the country. It was just so peaceful.

AJ

On how to be a superstar...

Just follow your heart. It takes a lot of patience, practice, determination and support from your family and friends. But shoot for the stars, and you can do it! Anybody can if they have the talent...

On BSBs' squeaky clean image...

The main thing for us is to be successful, and we know if we go out partying every night, we're not going to have a very long career, are we? Although, you know us - we sure do have a good time!

On BSB in 30 years' time...

We're like brothers now, so at 50, we'll still be like brothers. I think we could do it. It'd be cool to be up there at 50 years old, still doing the same stuff... although maybe not as much choreography - we'd have brittle bones to contend with!

On being a party animal...

Oh no! I've been found out. I'm the one who persuades everyone else to party. We've just got back from Spain, and we stayed out all night on our last day, going from club to club, then having a party back at the hotel until ten in the morning. You do have to force yourself to stay awake, but it's worth it!

On the last time he flew in a private jet...

We were in New York, doing Saturday Night Live, and MTV rented us a private jet to fly us to Jamaica to host The Grind - a dance show. We also did a bunch of stuff for MTV. We were there with Boyz II Men, Usher and Brandy - it was so cool!
