Joe Carter was an outstanding baseball player that played for a few not-so-outstanding teams. He was dominant hitter in the 1980s and 1990s, but was overlooked by nearly all media and fans. In 1986, Carter led the major leagues in runs batted in with 121, one of 10 seasons in which he drove in 100 or more. Carter also had 6 seasons with 30 or more home runs. His downfall was his batting average; he hit .300 or better in only one season, 1986, and finished his career with a .259 average. Carter's career began in Cleveland, before the Indians were contenders, so he did not receive much attention. He was not really noticed nationally until the 1990s, when he became a five-time All-Star playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, a frequent post-season visitor, and his claim to fame was his 1993 World Series winning home run.
