"The computer you are dialing into cannot establish a Dial-Up Networking connection. Check your password and try again."

Correct User ID (lower case) and Password (case-sensitive)? Account active? Suspended for abuse? Auth Test passed? Delete *.pwl files. Delete the existing connection. Enable TTY Window. Correct Network and DUN settings? Reinstall Comm.

"Dial-up Networking cannot negotiate a compatible set of Network Protocol you specified in the Server Type settings. Check your network configuration in the Control panel and try the connection again."

All network settings, DUN settings, modem's maximum speed setting in DUN, Post-Dial Terminal Window, un/reinstall TCP/IP(hit NO for version conflicts) ,modem string, ACCESS NUMBER, possibly wsock32n.dll

"You have been disconnected from the computer you dialed. Double-click connection to try again."

Presence of a TCP/IP in network settings and no extras, access number, modem string.

"The computer is not receiving a response from the modem. Make sure your modem is plugged in, and if necessary, turn the modem off and then back on."

DUN modem settings, init string, proper driver, reinstall the modem

"The modem is in use by another Dial-Up Networking connection or another program."

CTRL+ALT+DEL: close all programs except Explorer, echo atzcom?, make sure "Connect Using" in Dial-Up Networking is the correct modem.

"The computer you are dialing into is not answering. Try again later. The line is busy. Try again later."

Access number(area code?), modem settings and string, "cancel the call if not connected within X seconds" set too low, not enough commas, too many commas, K56Flex modem firmware not at least 1.0, miscellaneous telephony problems.

"Netscape caused an Invalid Page Fault in module netscape.exe (only when checking e-mail)."

This is caused by a corrupted inbox. You will need to open Windows Explorer, and go to their Netscape mail directory (by default, this will be C:\Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\ Mail). Rename inbox -> inbox.txt, inbox.snm -> inbox.old, sent -> sent.txt, sent.snm ->sent.old. Close Windows Explorer, and restart Netscape.

Go to START->FIND ->FILES OR FOLDERS

(note: You may find a wsock32n.dll in c:windows\system. Rename it!)

WINSOCKS - Windows 98

*It should be safe to ignore anything in c:\windows\sysbackup.
If you come up with extra winsocks anywhere in c:\winnt, leave them alone!

Windows-95 Look for Dialup Networking 1.2 OR 1.3 upgrade in the ADD/REMOVE Programs. Uninstall it, reinstall Communications
In Dialup Networking, Properties, Server Types, TCP/IP Settings: Check Server assigned IP address and Server Assigned Name Server Addresses In Network, TCP/IP Properties, Wins Configuration Select Disable Wins In Network, TCP/IP Properties, DNS Configuration Select Disable DNS

Windows 95: Reinstall Communications, Add TCP/IP and Configure.
Remove all network components, Remove Communications, Reinstall Communications add TCP/IP and Configure
Windows 98: Reinstall Dialup Networking and Configure TCP/IP Remove all network components, Remove Dialup Networking, Reinstall Dialup Networking and Configure TCP/IP Try locating http://207.172.3.92: If you get the page then extract a wsock32.dll
Extract winsock.dll, wsock32.dll, rasapi32.dll, icmp.dll , Example Below Example: extract /a /y /l c:\windows\system D:\win95\win95_03.cab wsock32.dll
Check out the Modem Properties. Modem may have to be reinstalled. Never remove Modem without 1st letting customer know that if it will not reinstall then they will have to contact their Modem Manufacturer
