All moves listed assumes player character is facing right and facing the
opponent. The characters no longer automatically turn to face their
opponent, so stay on the alert!

Ground Attacks:
When you opponent is down, you may do a close attack (stomp) or a far
attack (pounce) on him/her. Note that you must wait til he/she has
finished tumbling before you can perform the attack.
Stomp (when opponent is on the ground): S+X
Pounce (when opponent is on the ground): T+O
Duke is too noble to attack a downed opponent. Instead, pressing T+O
when the opponent is down will cause Duke to taunt, depleting his
opponent's overdrive gauge.
Back Attack:
When your character's back is to the opponent, you can do a back attack
which will also turn your character to face the opponent.
Back slash (when back is to opponent): S/T
Back kick (when back is to opponent): X/O
Back low slash (when back is to opponent): D, S/T
Back low kick (when back is to opponent): D, X/O
Taunting:
Taunt: [select]
Taunting increases your opponent's overdrive gauge. You can still defend
while taunting. You can also break a taunt by attacking.
Special Moves:
Special moves are executed using a directional sequence followed by one
more attack buttons. Some special moves may be executed using the R1 and
R2 buttons, or by pressing all S+T+O+X buttons at the same time.
Special move 1: R1 or S+T+O+X
Special move 2: R2 or B/F+S+T+O+X
Special move 3: R1+R2 or D+S+T+O+X
R1+R2 will execute a secret move if the instant secret moves mode
(see below) is active. D+S+T+O+X can still be used to access special
move 3.
Overdrive (when overdrive gauge is flashing): S+T+O+X / R1+R2
Desperation (when life gauge is flashing red): S+T+O+X / R1+R2

The format of move names are denoted as follows:
"Move" - Character shouts the name as the move is executed.
(Move) - Official name not known.

Combos:
Basic combos usually start with a weak attack followed by a strong
attack and/or special move. A combo will work only when the first hit
connects, even if blocked by the opponent.
Chain Combos are performed by doing a normal attack/combo followed
immediately by a special move, secret move, or desperation move.
There are a few variations you can execute: the basic weak-to-strong
combo, a chain combo, or a W-S chain combo.
1. Weak-to-Strong Combos
As the name implies this simple combo is executed by doing a weak
attack immediately followed by a strong attack.
There are thus 4 combinations weak-slash-to-hard-slash, weak-kick-
to-hard-kick, weak-slash-to-hard-kick, or weak-kick-to-hard-slash
(S,T; X,O; S,O; X,T), which you can permutate with high or low attacks
to give a possible total of 16 different W-S combos per character.
The permutations are:
H-H High attack to High attack
H-L High attack to Low attack
L-H Low attack to High attack
L-L Low attack to Low attack
All Any of the above
H-? First attack must be High
Some character's normal attacks can hit from a distance. In some
cases, the striking distance may affect the execution of a combo:

2. Chain Combos
Basic chain combos may be performed by doing a normal (weak or strong)
attack followed immediately by a special move, secret move or
desperation move.
E.g. Eiji's weak slash to hishouzan (F, D, D, slash)
3. Weak-to-Strong Chain Combos
This is simply executed by performing a W-S combo ending in a special
move, secret move or desperation move. Very effective in taking a
large chunk out of your opponent's life.
E.g. Kayin's low weak slash, low hard slash to upper glide (DF, T)
Match Bosses Line-up:
Each character will fight a semi-random line-up of characters and a arch-
rival before fighting the boss(es). The follow table lists the match
line-up for the last 3 battles in a 1P game.

Boss Codes & Hints:
To fight Sho, you must defeat the game at level 5 or above without using
any continues.
When you first start up, none of the bosses are available, and the menu
highlight box is yellow.
Uranus and Master: At the title screen, as the menu items fly in from the
left, do this sequence on controller 1
L1, L2, T, R1, R2, S
Alternatively, beat the game at level 4 or above with as many continues
as you like. The fastest way is to set the number of bouts to 1.
You can choose Uranus and Master when the menu highlight box is cyan.
Sho and Vermillion: At the title screen, as the menu items fly in from
the left, do this sequence on controller 2
S, R2, R1, T, L2, L1 (reverse of Uranus and Master code)
Alternatively, beat the game at level 6 or above with as many continues
as you like. Or beat the game using Master at level 5 or above.
You can choose Sho and Vermillion when the menu highlight box is red.
To select the bosses, highlight the ? at the character selection screen
and hold the [select] button to slow down the scrolling. Press S, T, O or
X when the required boss's face appears.
Instant Secret Moves:
After Sho and Vermillion are selectable (see above), as the menu items
fly in from the left, do this sequence on controller 1:
R1, R2, S, L1, L2, T
Alternatively, beat the game using any character.
The menu highlight box will turn green. You can now execute any
character's secret move by pressing R1+R2.
Costume Colors:
Each character has 4 different sets of costume and hair colors.
Player 1 and 2 cannot both use the same colors.
On controller 1, when you highlight a character, you can use S or T
to select the original colors, X or O to select the alternative colors.
To get the other two sets of colors, highlight the character you want
on the ? and press S or X. T and O will select from the original two
sets.

Option Menu:
Level .............. Difficulty level. From 1 (easiest) to 8 (hardest).
Default 4.
Bout timer ......... Length of one bout in seconds. 60, 99 and 00
(unlimited time). Default 60 seconds.
Set count .......... Number of bouts needed to win one fight. 1 to 3
bouts. Default 2.
Life points ........ Player handicap for VS mode battles only. No
effect on 1P games. From 70 to 120. Default 100.
Guard type ......... Normal blocking, auto blocking, and no blocking.
Default normal blocking.
Controller ......... Define the function of R1, R2, L1 and L2 buttons.
Special 1 Roll toward Near down attack Block

Defaults R1 = Special 1
R2 = Special 2
L1 = Roll toward
L2 = Roll away
Camera type ........ Changes the camera view. Normal, far, sky and
overhead views. Default normal view.
There is another option "Control", which will only
become available when you do the camera trick (see
below).
Sound .............. Monoaural or stereo sound output. Default stereo.
Character select ... Normal or Fast modes. In the normal mode, a 3D
rotating model of the character is shown in the
select window. In fast mode, only text showing the
character stats are shown. Using Fast mode reduces
CD loading time. Default Normal.
Camera Tricks:
In the option's screen, set all R1, R2, L1 and L2 to "Not Used". Next,
set the camera option to "Control", cycle through one of the R1, R2,
L1, L2 options until all of them is set to "Camera".
Rotate camera:
Use R1, R2, L1 and L2 to rotate the camera angles. Works both when
paused and while fighting.
No gauges:
Pause the game and on controller 1, press S+T+O+X and [select].
The options menu will disappear. Do it again and the energy and
overdrive guages will disappear. Press start to play without gauges
or S+T+O+X+[select] again to get back the menu and gauges.
Zoom mode:
If controller 1 is set to camera mode and you do the no gauges trick
(see above), the R1, R2, L1 and L2 buttons will now control the
zooming and vertical scrolling.
Frame advance mode:
When paused, pressing [select] on controller 2 will advance the game
by one frame. Hold down [select] for slow motion.
Game bug:
I found this bug while playing with the slow motion trick (see Camera
Trick above). Pause the game just before your character is about to lose
from a final blow. On controller 1, remove the options menu by pressing
[select] and S+T+O+X simultaneously. Do it again if you don't like the
gauges :) Now, advance frame by frame using the [select] button on
controller 2 until the character loses. Don't do anything and the game
will keep going into the next round, losing and finally return to the
main menu automatically. Now, notice that the options menu and game menu
are both active on the same screen! Talk about multitasking. I managed
to mess up the text font and graphics that are only loaded at startup,
but the game still plays fine.
