Pokémon 2000 Stadium Tour

Tournament Rules & Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The Tournament is open to the first 1,000 players with their own Game Boy system and either a Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow game Pak.

  • Game Link cables will be provided at the Tournament; so you can still compete if you don't have your own.
  • Tournament players must already know how to play the game.
  • There are three tournament classes you can compete in: Pika Cup, Pok Cup or Prime Cup.

If most of your Pokémon are between experience levels 15 & 20 and you are fairly new to the game, you should register for the Pika Cup tournament. Here we will provide some instruction during the tournament when needed and take a little more time for each match.

If most of your Pokémon are between experience levels 50 & 55 and you have more than 50 hours in on the game, you should register for the Pok Cup tournament. Here we adhere strictly to the rules, but the level of Pokémon used are less advanced than in the Prime Cup.

If you consider yourself to be an expert on the game and you have at least 3 Pokémon over experience level 70, you may be a candidate for the Prime Cup. This is an area for advanced play.

WHAT YOU EARN!

When you compete in either the Pika, Pok or Prime Cup tournaments, you will earn Official Trainer Badges from Nintendo. You can earn up to three badges for competition play today. Collect these badges and attach them to your Pokémon badge holder.

Badge 1. Pokémon 2000 Stadium Tour Competition Badge - Enter a tournament and win or lose, you collect this first badge. This badge shows you have competed in an official tournament.

Badge 2. Boulder Badge - Win one of your two matches and you are awarded this badge in addition to your Pokémon 2000 Stadium Tour Competition Badge. Now you can show that you've not only competed, but that you are more than a beginner!

Badge 3. Cascade Badge -Win both of your matches and win this badge in addition to the first two. This badge will show that you are ready to battle!

Attention Pika, Pok and Prime Cup Players! There will be a random drawing before each Pika, Pok and Prime Cup tournament. If your name is drawn, you will battle a Master Trainer in the Master Trainer Challenge at the STADIUM immediately following your tournament battles!

Basic Rules For ALL Tournaments

You may not use any Pokémon that have been altered or boosted by any game enhancing devices. Doing this may result in game program malfunction and will result in your disqualification from the competition.

Each tournament match will begin by players selecting six Pokémon and having them ready at a Pokémon Center (within your Game Boy game). These six Pokémon will then be shown to the opponent.

  • In the Pika Cup, all Pokémon shown to an opponent must be between experience levels 15 and 20.
  • In the Pok Cup, all Pokémon shown to an opponent must be between experience levels 50 and 55.
  • In the Prime Cup, all Pokémon shown to an opponent may not be more than experience level 100 (level 70 or higher is recommended).

From the six Pokémon you show to your opponent, you then select three of your Pokémon to do battle. Do not show these three Pokémon to your opponent. (Hint: Pick your three Pokémon based on what your opponent has shown you as his or her possible Pokémon.)

  • In the Pika Cup, the combined level of the 3 Pokémon you choose to do battle must equal 50 or less
  • In the Pok Cup, the combined level of the 3 Pokémon you choose to do battle must equal 155 or less.
  • In the Prime Cup, the combined level of the 3 Pokémon you choose to do battle must equal 300 or less.

You will then deposit the remaining three unused Pokémon in your PC (in your Game Boy game).

Rules of Battle

  • Out of your opponent's three Pokémon, you may "Put to Sleep" and "Freeze" only one Pokémon at a time. (If you put one of your opponent's Pokémon to sleep, you may not put a second one to sleep while the first one is still asleep. If you freeze one of your opponent's Pokémon, you may not freeze another one while the first one is still frozen. However, one may be frozen and one may be put to sleep during the same period of time.)
  • You may not use the Technical Machines "SELFDESTRUCT" or "EXPLOSION" with your last Pokémon.

If you break these rules, you will be disqualified from the tournament.
