Ramadan - The Month of Fasting
Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar, which is based on the orbiting of the moon (lunar calendar) rather than ont he orbiting of the Earth (Solar calendar).
Almighty God says in The Qur'an:
"It was in the month of Ramadan in which the Qur'an was (first) revealed as guidance unto man and a self-evident proof of that guidance, and as the standard by which to discern the true from the false. Hence, whoever of you is present (at home) shall fast throughout it" (2:185)
Recommendations during Ramadan:
One of the functions of fasting is to make Muslims realize how it feels to be hungry, i.e., needy. Giving charity is therfore quite closely related to fasting and it should be given to the fullest extent one can afford.
EID-UL-FITR:
After Ramadan has ended, Eid-ul-Fitr, the Festical of Fast Breaking takes place on the first day of the succeeding month. Eid is a day of thanksgiving and rejoicing for the fulfillment of the obligation of fast according to God's command.
