Welcome to my website. This
website has my very own (very simple too) VRML
files. But before you view them, let me tell you
something about them. |

VRML, proposed in
1994, stands for Virtual Reality Modeling/Markup
Language. It is a subset of SGML, in which HTML
is part of. VRML is the language which
"draws" a 3Dimensional virtual image on
your computer's memory. Then the program
translate that virtual image into graphics shown
on your monitor. The graphics you see on your
monitor itself isn't 3D, because the screen
surface only goes in two dimensions: length and
width. However, Virtual Reality simulates that
virtual image into a virtual object on your
screen. |
That isn't new; you've been
playing "3d" games like DOOM and QUAKE
before. However, DOOM and co. allows only to
scroll around a world, shoot some bad guys, and
that's it. But VRML goes farther. You can walk up
and down, left or right, forwards or backwards,
and the world changes accordingly. You can study
an object as if it was in your hands. You can
make 3d worlds that is animated, colorful, and
fully three dimensional. And VRML is portable, as
portable as HTML is. |

Portable, meaning
that no matter what kind of computer it is, as
long as it has the right program, it can be
viewed properly. One thing that makes VRML
portable is that it is in ASCII format. Does that
ring a bell? Yes, VRML is editable as text. In
fact, you can create your own 3d world/object
using just Notepad, but I think that would be
hard. Nonetheless, VRML files are also small, in
filesize. |
That's just about what I can say
about VRML at this time. One more thing: I
created all of the vrml using a 3d CAD program
called Minos. It's freeware, and available in
both English and French. It's really nice; try
it. |
