Route 1

With your Pokémon in tow, take Route 1 north to Viridian City. As you wander through the tall grass, wild Pokémon will challenge you. You won't be able to capture them just yet, but that's all right. Let your Pokémon fight a few battles to gain experience. If your Pokémon is injured or faints, you can take it home or to the Pokémon Center in Viridian City.

2. Rewards for Being Friendly
As you go through towns and Routes, you'll notice people standing along the path. By talking to these people, they will give you rewards or offer you Pokemon for trading with you. You will also incounter other Trainers, who won't miss a chance to show their stuff.

1. The Dangers of Long Grass
When you leave Pallet town, you will notice thratches of long, wavy grass. You will always, and this is also the only way, to find Wild Pokemon on land. As you go through the grasses, you will be attacked by the first two new Wild Pokemon, Pidgey and Rattata. If you have Poke Balls, you should weaken them and catch them.
