Brood War is scheduled to be released October 1998. It will include new single player campaigns along with 100 new multiplayer maps. Additionally Blizzard is thinking about adding new game types. It will be supported by Battle.net but existing StarCraft owners will not be able to play with Brood War owners but rather there will be an option before logging into bnet to play Brood Wars or StarCraft. There will be 7 new units along with two new upgrades to the terran goliath and the zerg ultralisk. Along with this there are three new tilesets: Desert, twilight world, and ice. The desert world is actually the blasted remains of Korhal, with buildings buried in the sand and great dunes of red sand. The twilight world is Shakuras and is perpetually dark. The ice world is the world of Braxis, a fringe colony of the Terran Dominion. In all the new tilesets, ramps will be almost twice as big as they were in Starcraft (meaning less of a bottleneck leading to plateaus). Each tileset will have new critters and more animating doodads. Also, there will be new music and all new cut scenes. You can download a teaser movie here. It promises to be a great expansion pack filled with hours of carnage.
