About Weasel Works
Weasel Works is basically little ol' me, Scarius. Some other people contribute various things, but it's mostly ancillary stuff. Lately this has become more of an all-around software company, however the traditional focus is on computer games. I say company because technically it is a company, and I think of it as such, even though I make no money (yet). Lately Weasel Works has started branching off into producing utilities, web pages, graphics software, scripting languages, and fun stuff like that. However, there are several games in the pipeline which I hope to introduce to you soon.
History
When I was around 6, I got my first computer - a Commodore 64. My dad put it in my room and obviously I played a lot of games on it. Eventually I decided I wanted to make my own games. I fooled around with Basic at home, LogoWriter at school, did some neat stuff, but nothing fantastic. Then, for my 12th Christmas I got a little book entitled "C for Rookies" which came with a simple C compiler. The first time I looked at it I couldn't make heads nor tails of it, so I put it down for a couple weeks. Then I started reading it and writing simple programs in C.
The big kick came when I got a copy of Microsoft Visual C/C++ version 1.52 and a copy of "Tricks of the Game Programming Gurus" by Andre LaMothe for my 8th grade graduation present. I pored over the book, messed around with the compiler and its wonderful online help system, and started writing decent programs. I even wrote a couple nifty little games, all of which have unfortunately been lost.
At some point I realized MSVC just wasn't going to cut it for my purposes, so I downloaded and set up DJGPP and Allegro, two wonderful things. At this point I started writing serious games and other programs. I also spent a good deal of time in the computer lab at school, writing Macintosh programs and talking to the computer teacher at the time, Mr. Benjamin. After a long while I got to the point I am now: writing compilers, virtual machines, games, utilities, all sorts of junk.
Anyway, that's the story behind Weasel Works. Just thought I'd let you know.
The colors man, the colors!!!
Why is there so much red and blue stuff around here? Good question. That's because they're the semi-official Weasel Works colors. In my first game to have a real intro, TankWar, a red "Weasel" and white "Works" scrolled all over the screen. The white didn't look good, probably because Scarius had not realized the magic of anti-aliasing yet. So in my next game with an intro,
Scarius:Space Pilot, a blue "Weasel" and red "Works" scrolled around. These looked a lot better, and became the Weasel Works colors. The image used in the SSP intro was actually used on the old Weasel Works web pages:
