COBALT
From Microsoft Encarta
97 - "Cobalt, symbol Co, silvery-white, magnetic, metallic element
used chiefly for making alloys - atomic number 27 - melts at 1495 C -
radioactive isotope Cobalt-60, half-life of 5.7 years, produces intensive
gamma radiation".
The nom de guerre "Cobalt" was chosen as a tribute to an
important underground comic artist, Vaughn Bode', who was popular in the
late 60's-early 70's. A contemporary of R. Crumb, Bode's specialty was
social commentary on that incendiary time in America, interpreted through
fantasy situations and characters. Though he was best known for his "Cheech
Wizard" character, his lizards and buxom babes, he created an
alien-assassin character named Cobalt-60; Ralph Bakshi paid tribute to
Bode (and other underground/fantasy artists) in the animated movie feature"Wizards".
The character of Nekron-99 was his nod to Bode. Needing an online name
that no one else would think of, I combined those 2 names, and became
Cobalt-99.
