Multimedia & Interactivity on the Web

Animation:

  • Animations can be used effectively to:

          1. catch a visitor's attention;

        2. demonstrate a simple process or

        3. illustrate change over time;

  • BUT:

        Don't use more than one animation per web page and fellow good design practice

        because otherwise the visitor could be distracted or annoyed.

  • 2 widely used animations:

        1. Animated GIFs (consists of a sequence of frames containing graphic images in

           GIF format that stimulate movement);

           - most popular and widely used form of animations;

           - Example for an animated GIF:

               - there are several web sites where you can download free animations,

               e.g. www.animationfactory.com/

        2. Flash Animation (flash stimulates motion via fast-paced presentation of

           changing static images);

           - a flexible tool to create streaming tool is Macromedia Flash;
