Balron Battlethirst.

Dwarf Fighter

Balron was born in the city of Strongwall while his parents were trading, his mother dying in childbirth.  His father, Boron the White, immediately remarried the daughter of the local Dwarven chieftain, Aknot.  Returning to the Drakor Mountains, the lived in peace for some years until Boron died in mysterious circumstances.

Balron's stepmother placed him as an apprentice to the guard and then left to return to her family in Ararn.

Years passed and Balron became renowned for his skills at fighting.  He dedicated his life to following the footsteps of Kragdin Battlemaster, a legendary dwarven hero.  When he was finally appointed to the guard a priest of Kragdin gave him and blessed battleaxe, saying it would defend him against the most evil of monsters.  He gained a reputation as a dependable and trustworthy warrior, one that you could trust your back to in combat, during several major battles with the humanoids that roamed the area.

Eventually his captain, jealous of his rising prestige, sent him with a small troop into the wilds north of the mountains to investigate some rumours of monsters gathering in the ruined city.  Monsters indeed gathered, and in battle his troop was slain.  He managed to escape, travelling north to Derisnospewn to recuperate before trying to return to his beloved homeland.

Equipment

I am dressed in standard issue for a mid-high level Dwarven Guard. Probably Combination Chain/Plate, large metal plated boots, chain coif, Dwarven Kzarkan Helmet (plain fitted steel helmet with a moulded face guard that slide up - set into a fierce visage. These are only worn by Dwarves who have proven themselves in numerous ways, particularly great heroism. Legend has it that once the face plate is lowered they become imbued with the strength and skills of their ancestor gods. Legend also says that once lowered the warrior will fight beyond death to fulfill his mission). He carries a heavy crossbow slung over his shoulders. It is apparent that the arms of the bow are not quiet as wide as his shoulders, giving it the appearance of a smaller weapon. A bolt is held in place on the weapon, although it isn't cocked. He doesn't seem to carry a windlass or other mechanical cocking aide. (BTW - I am on my laptop at the moment and so don't have the list of skills my character has so this may be a bit different - I can't remember sword or Axe - I'll give you a description of both and you can put in the appropriate one.) In his right hand he carries a shining silver great (Axe/Sword), sheathed and covered at this time - only the handle is visible. Runes are carved along it, melding into runes on the sheath. As he stands with his hands behind his back, he swings the weapon up so that the blade appears behind his head. A small, heavy looking shield is slung on his left shoulder, daggers adorn his boots and bracers. Judging by the depths of his footprints in the soft grass, the weight he is carrying must be incredible, but he shows no signs of awkwardness. He has a pack in his room with food, water bottles, rope, generic dungeoneering equipment for a dwarf - candle, string, folding grappling hook etc. BTW - some of his quarrels are 'screamers'. They have discordant high pitches whistles built into the head so they scream when they fly. The range is slightly reduced but accuracy is unaffected.
