GM:

He turns to Nadia and Gwen.  "I have warded this place against baneful influences and the presences of beings unseen."

Gwen scrambles to her feet, blood streaked hand clamping on the table for leverage.  Her lovely visage is flushed, her limbs shaking.  With a choked cry  and a curse, she lurches forward and slaps the elf's face then stumbles back, clutching her hands together, as if appalled.

Kaceubel raises one delicate hand to where he was struck, staring at Gwen in disbelief and surprise.

Trembling, she nonetheless stares fiercely at the mage and in a low, shuddering voice informs him, "I swore along time ago that no heretical mage from the Greatwood was ever going to cast his spells on me.  You don't know how hard it is for me to be your friend, Kaceubel, and I do, I truly want to, but my people and yours, my ... " Gwen abruptly draws a heavy breath and looks down, shoulders wilting.  "I am sorry",  she mumbles, leaning heavilly now against the table, "I didn't mean to hit you.  You just ... frightened me.  I'm sorry." Turning her head away, the ranger pushes her long, pale braids back over her shoulders, stoops and collects up her pipe.  It has gone out.  For a moment she stares numbly, then shoves it into her belt.  "I have travelled a long way and slept too many nights in this poisoned land," Gwen mutters, glancing towards the Hobbit with bloodshot eyes.  "I don't know how you could have come back here, having seen what you've seen."

"You do not listen."  The elf is staring at Gwen, plainly angry with the ranger.  "You jump to unjust conclusions, I expect better from a woods ranger and follower of the Earth Mother than this."  He breaks of his stare as he raises his hand to check for blood.  "I took your collapse as an attack of some kind, foolishly assuming that you had your habits under control.  Naturally my first reaction was to protect this room against further attacks."

Malkhut carries a tray in from the kitchen.  He eyes you all as you are gathered around the ranger.  Placing the tray on the bar, he carries plates to Nadia's table.

"M'lord Kacebul, you're fish, cabbage and potato, M'lady Gwen.. " He peers cautiously at the ranger.

"Thankyou Malkut, it -"

"Your venison, cauliflower, taters'n drippin"

" - smells delicious."

He walks back to the bar and removes the remaining plate and mug in front of Balron.

"And for you, master dwarf, venison, taters, turnips and our best ale."

"Health to you all."

"Adventurers...  huh"

Kaceubel sighs and half mutters "Mortals."  The elf picks up his pack in one hand, his dinner in the other and walks back to his table.  He places the platter in the middle of the table and props his pack on the table to rumage in it.  He removes a metal bottle engraved with elven runes and two cups of similar design.  He pauses, glances at Gwen and puts one of the cups back into his bag which he puts by his chair as he seats himself.

[Nadia] "Malkhut, get me some clean, hot water and a clean cloth, now"

[more quietly, to Gwen]  "Sit down, at the very least we can clean this off, and maybe find a little cause, effect and cure"

Malkhut dashes into the kitchen.  Pushing the limits of agility for someone of his build.  Moments later he hands some clean rags and a mug of hot water to Nadia.

As Nadia cleans off the blood, using only her right hand, she speaks very quietly.  The words cannot quite be made out, but the words somehow still calm a little.

Her left hand hovers just above her lap, sitting just above the case, moving and shifting a little, apparently with the words, creating a very quiet and subtle somatic accompaniment to the rising and falling of her voice.

[cleric only] [Now, what exactly happens here depends upon what she finds with this]

[Assuming the above happens, Gwen has spoken of poison, although possibly not literally and Nadia is seeking any form of influence that has caused an imbalance in the humours of the ranger's system.]  [The quiet words are, on the whole, no more than nonsense murmuring designed to quiet, like one might for a child, or ill person.  The hand is more creating the request to heaven, although the words to the spell are written into the nonsense. Very clever design on the part of some holistic healer who obviously believed in more than just clobbering the illness.  So, if someone has particularly keen hearing, they won't hear anything worth copying.]

[Please tell me, so I can respond/expand my response] [Since just off the top of my head the possibilities are enormous]

[cleric only] [She appears to have several minor internal injuries consistant with that caused by longterm use of inhaled drugs.  Further examination (for type of drug, etc..) would require more mojo (i.e. gestures and other laws of magic) ]

Balron:

Gwen:

Kaceubel:

Kaceubel leaps to his feet, says "Nadia" and points to Gwen.

[Does this look like an effect of her drugs, poison, an outside influence or something else?  In any case I think a ward against magic and things unseen is in order]

[it looks probable that it is an adverse reaction to a drug]

The mage takes a stance, chanting in a long forgotten tongue

[I don't have to chant in a long forgotten tongue but it adds to my mystique and gives me magical brownie points]

[yes it does earn you points]

gathering his hands in together over his sternum.

There's a pause, then Gwen moans softly and her eyes open. Blinking, a hand lifting to her nose, she looks up and notices those around her, eyes fixing on the mage.

He is suddenly illuminated as a ball of blue light appears between his fingers.  The chanting gathers in intensity and the ball expands outward, becoming a dome as it rushes out to the walls of the room.  The blue light lingers for a moment in the doorways and windows before fading away.

Kaceubel looks suddenly tired and seems to glaze over for a moment.

[I am assuming hear that I will need to grant whatever Nadia is casting for Gwen]

[yes, but she has chosen not to react]
