Mike and Dan's Web Site of Television Information
All you Simpsons fans go to the next item after the article for some trivia questions by Mike.

I basically think that The Simpsons is one of the two best television shows ever created, mostly for comedy and stupidity, but also for those memorable and meaningful moments in the family's life. If you are not acquainted with the Simpsons, you should definitely take the time to watch the show at least once. It should be on daily (in syndication) on Fox, and on Sundays it is on at 7:00pm CST.

Now for my review of the Simpsons. I'm going to start from the Simpsons' household and work outwards.

First of all there is Bart, the little hell raiser. It's either prank phone calls to Moe's Tavern, practical jokes, or stinging social commentary, (or all three) for Bart in each episode.

Next comes Lisa. She is a precocious but unpopular girl that the writers use to express observations of someone of above-average intelligence yet full of childhood innocence. The contrast created by these character traits is used to full effect very often. A typical moment is when Homer, paranoid about the end of his marriage and aware of Lisa's superior intellect, begs of her to save his marriage. She pauses and responds "Can I stay up?"

And there's also baby Maggie. She communicates only through sucks on her pacifier and body lanugage, though she once uttered an over-hyped single word, voiced by Elizabeth Taylor. She is Homer's pride and joy and he tries to be a good father, though he may forget about her or nearly sit on her once in a while.

And now the Simpson parents. Homer is of course the usually slow-witted father, and arguably the best character on the show, and one of the greatest in TV history.

Marge is a bit like a grown-up Lisa, (much to her chagrin)- intelligent, but socially isolated, and wondering what she should have to give up for happiness as opposed to what she already has. Her job is basically to keep the house clean and to take care of Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. No small task in addition to these is to put up with Homer's crazy schemes and to create a more loving, accepting environment than she grew up with.

Well there you've had it- a very brief bit about the Simpson family. Now make sure that you watch the next episode, and every one after that if you can.

Seinfeld
The "show about nothing" falls solidly into my top two. Imagine your everyday life being broadcasted over television, condensed to a half hour and made funnier.

Well, that is basically what the show is about- a small gang of normal people just like you and me... well, not that normal. The cast- Jerry Seinfeld, playing himself, pesky neighbor Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards), Jerry's longtime friend George Costanza, and Jerry's ex-girlfriend Elaine.

The world watches as they go through everyday, as well as rather unusual, problems, like apologizing to a monkey.

The show is pretty hard to describe, but as it has indisputably and immeasurably changed the way TV sitcoms portray life, I think in twenty years it will still be very popular. If you don't watch it, and want to try, check your local listings as it is in syndication throughout the week most everywhere.
