PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND PREMISES |
Town Hall Market Place Tel: (013873) 80255 |
There have been substantial alterations to this building, externally and internally, the refurbishment was carried out with the needs of disabled people very much in mind. The alterations have made all the ground floor main offices on one level, which now incorporates wide corridors leading to public exhibition rooms. The public service counter is now accessed immediately on entry. Concrete ramps have been built externally into both sides of the main entrance to accommodate wheelchairs and immediately to the front of the building there are two disabled parking bays that are clearly defined. The pavement kerb has been reduced to ground level situated in front and between the disabled parking bays which allows wheelchairs easy and safe access. RADAR keys can be purchased here.

Dentist's Surgery Lairds Entry Tel: (013873) 80521 |
The surgery is located in the Lairds Entry approximately 50 yards from the High Street, down the north side of the Eskdale Hotel. Access is difficult for wheelchair users owing to the two 6” steps going downwards. After the steps have been negotiated, a right hand turn has to be made in an area of 2ft. x 3ft. to gain entry into the waiting room. I have found through personal experience that it is best to negotiate the steps going in backwards with the assistance of two helpers. *** WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE WITH ASSISTANCE ***

The Community Centre, as the name implies is a centre where groups and individuals gather for their sporting and recreational activities. Access to the premises is not ideal owing to a set of double spring doors that open only inwards and are strongly sprung. A wheelchair user would not be able to access all parts of the premises, a pity as most activities are carried out on the upper floor level which can only be accessed via a flight of stairs. There is a purpose-built unisex toilet located on the ground floor.
