A pioneering force in Jamaican ska, rock steady, and reggae
during the '60s, here is why Desmond Dekker became reggae's
first international star and live performer still very much admired by
a new generation of fans. Outstanding recordings are: "The Best of
Desmond Dekker" (Rhino), "King of Kings" with The Specials (Trojan)
and "Officially Live and Rare" (Trojan). Good source of information
are books such as "Boss Sounds - Classic Skinhead Reggae" by
Marc Griffiths (Skinhead Times Publishing), "Roots Rock Reggae"
by Chuck Foster (Billboard Books), "This is Reggae Music: The Story
of Jamaica's Music" by Lloyd Bradley (with foreword by Prince Buster),
and "Reggae: Rough Guide" (Rough Guides). See also the Links
