Welcome to page 7

Getting your pieces of glass to stand up can be a bit of a trick! One of the easiest methods I have found is just to create a small wooden stand with a slot to hold the glass upright.

I prefer oak (as shown) or walnut with a light spray of glossy varnish or a touch of stain, dark or light, depending on how it goes with the glass I'm using it for.

The bottom of the stand is finished like the rest, but I add little plastic stick on feet in the corners to keep the wood from scratching what it sits on and also to keep it from sliding around or off and on the floor.

This is 3/4" wood. I usually cut it a little wider than the glass and deep enough to provide stability.

The end shows the cut that holds the glass.

The slot is cut at a 5 degree angle to let the glass lean back just a touch. It stabilizes the whole piece and makes for a little easier viewing. A little hot glue in the slot and the glass stays in place very nicely. Cut the slot just wide enough for the glass - a table saw is really handy for this!

A tip for displaying glass: Carved glass usually looks its best when light is allowed to come in from either the back or side when viewing. Attempting to hang carved, clear glass on walls or mounting it on textured unlit surfaces will cause the design to be difficult to see or disappear all together!
