Well kids, this is it, the discussion room.
Pull up a chair, dig into your popcorn and be prepared to witness Eva in it's wonderful glory as seen through the eyes of C. Oh, that gives me chills!
Well for all intensive purposes I'll tell it like I've seen it. I've seen the whole series at the very least twice through. I've also seen the movie. Squish, squish. These are the things that make life worth living. I realize there are people that have it worse off than I do, but then again, they're just cartoons (as Carol gets pelted with tons of flame mail: "Just cartoons? Do you smoke crack?"). And by the way, no, I don't.
My first theory of Eva is as follows:
Evangelions are actually made of several components:
1)Obviously they have armor plates.
2)Human like parts created from Adam and or Lilith.
3)The souls of certain characters. My pairings: Eva 00 is Rei or the soul of one of her clones, Eva 01 is Yui Ikari, Shinji's mom, Eva 02 is Kyoko Soryu, Asuka's mom.
4)The Eva's are in their greatest form with the addition of an S2 organ (that nice red bulb that seems to be the power source of the angels.
My second theory of Eva is along the lines of this:
Who's screwing whom?
-What is the deal with Seelye anyway? It seems to me that Seelye is trying to pull Gendou Ikari's strings throughout the entire series. We never see the true faces of Seelye as they are always placed on sound only during meetings. They try to control and manipulate Gendou. They are willing to take any means to remove him from his position of power once they realize that he wields so much.
-All truths be told, Gendou is not blind to this interference. He is always one step ahead of the game. He is pushing the Dead Sea Scrolls timetable forward, forging towards the human instrumentality project. Seelye is reluctant to follow his lead and want to buy more time.
-I think the problem with the human instrumentality project is that we as the audience are never told outright what it is. This will follow as my third theory, but it ties in up here. In any case, who is really on humanity's side? In my mind, Gendou, all the way baby.
-Gendou pretty much sells his soul so that all humans can leave their physical restraints behind and become one with the all powerful (whatever you believe that to be). And while this may be seen as a bad thing, you know ending the world before lunch, I think not. I would rather be a part of all creation than just one, separated, outcast member of it.
My third theory of Eva...
The human instrumentality project.
-As I said before, we the viewing audience are never told straight out what this is. You kind of have to cut and paste and gesticulate a lot to figure it out on your own. In my mind, the human instrumentality project comes to a head in the movie.
-The project is a way for all humans to become one with the powers that be. It is the union of all souls and the ending of the world. Yet at the same time it is the beginning of the world as the last image we are treated to (oops, that's in my next theory)...
My fourth theory of Eva is simply this,
Shinji is two people for all intensive purposes. He incarnates the second coming of Christ and also Adam the first man.
-The last image of the movie clearly shows him as Adam. He is lying on the beach, choking his perfect woman (a nice melding of Asuka, Rei and Misato). She touches his face in kindness whereas he expected a smack, and he stops choking her. These two are left out of the entire world to start over and begin on a fresh slate.
-The movie also shows Shinji crucified on an anti-AT field cross. This image, for some reason I can't place (denote sarcasm here), reminds me of Christ as he was nailed to the crucifix.
My fifth theory of Eva is all about
AT fields
-As we all know, or at least should by now, AT stands for absolute terror. Why this is I could never figure out, but as I was thinking about it just now? What is it that woman and man are most frightened to face? In my humble opinion, her or his own soul. That very portal that contains all of our most hated and dark secrets. I would be in absolute terror of coming face to face with my own soul. The AT field is just that. And as Kaoru said it best: "This is the light of the soul, sacred territory where no one should intrude. Don't you humans know? Everybody has an AT field."
Well that's it for now so far as my theories go, but I do have more floating amongst the flotsam and jetsam that is my mind. I'm sure I'll type 'em out eventually and put them up here. Please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like me to post your opinions as well.
