Antonio Lucio Vivaldi(1678-1741) was a very influentual Composer in Italy, he had a certin orignality.

Born on March 4th in 1678, he was so frail the mid-wife baptized him immediately.But he also had an aptitude for music. And he played with his father at Saint Mark's Basilica.

Young Vivaldi studied to be a priest and was ordained in 1703, at the age of 25. Also that year he obtained a teaching position at Pio Ospedale della Pieta a school for orphan girls. He taught any student that showed a intrest or talent.

The concerts they performed on sunday were quite famous. No trip to Vienna was concidered complete with out hearing a performance.

However in 1709 the school had fallen on hard times and decided not to renew his position as teacher.

Luckly in 1711 he was reappointed as teacher up until 1716. Then he was promoted to Maestro. In his later years he traveled extensivly, living for peroids in Veinna and Mantua, where he was court composer for Prince Philipp.

Near his death Vivaldis popularity declined. And he died in Vienna on July 28th, 1741.

Early in his life Vivaldis oprea's were performed throughut Italy and Vienna. More then 750 of his works are known to exist.

Vivaldi's orignal music style had much infulence on later composers, Including Johann S. Bach.

Today Vivaldi's oprea's are not heard as frequently as his orchestral and chamber music.
