Church and Politics, Problems of the Past, Challenges of the Future
For all who visit this page, welcome. It is our goal to present as good a view, and
as unbiased a view as possible concerning the issue of Church and State. Below you
will find the entire copy of the presentation we gave in class, as well as a list of
resources, and even some of the resources we used in creating this project. Below you
will also find various historical documents, as well as links to other resources on the
net. We have also posted all ten minutes of the clip we showed in class from the movie "Inherit

Part One
A History of Oppression by the State? In this part, Clark examines the
oppression of the Catholic Church through history by various governmental forces
Chruch and State, The Quest for Separation In this part, Anthony looks at
the history of the Catholic Church and Christianity in America, centering in on the incresing secularization
of America in the twentieth century.
A Little Monkey Business In this section we present a review of the movie presented
in class, 'Inherit the Wind' and also present to you the entire ten minute clip of the portion we showed in
class in Real Audio format.
Part Two
Catholics, Speaking from the Left In this part, Clark examines the relationship Catholics
have had to the Liberal movement, taking us back to the days of John F Kennedy, to modern day, examining the role
of Catholics in the Democratic party.
The Right Voice for America? In this part, Anthony examines how modern Catholics feel about
fundamentalist movements such as the Christian Coalition, and why they are gaining more and more
power.
Conclusion
Where Do We Go From Here, The Final Decision In this part, Clark and Anthony try to wrap
things up, and project where the next move will be for Catholics in the next political era.
