Holiday Poetry by Steven
Welcome, holiday traveler. You have reached the section of my realm containing poetry by Steven. A talented writer, I thank Steven for entering. May Steven's holiday season be merry and bright.
Christmas 1977
I can't recall the gifts.
But I see the green tree heaped
with Gramma's silver ornaments.
We adorned our old clapboard house
with pine wreaths, bows and candles.
At the Christmas Eve candlelight service,
Yvonne muffled her giggling
when Mom sang We Three Kings,
and set us all to laughing.
Elaine played scratchy albums
over and over until we all sang
White Christmas with Bing.
Did we have a ham for dinner,
or was it turkey?
I can't recall the gifts.
But looking back across the forgotten snowfalls
in Babcock's woods, past the Elton road
through Windber's hills,
I remember your faces shining like angels
that morning, our last Appalachian Christmas.
