Thorfinn's Heathen Hearth
Well met, friend! I am Thorfinn. Be most welcome. Sit,
warm yourself by the fire. Put away your wet cloak and take a horn of ale with me
awhile. Rest, and be sheltered from the storm without! Thor rides the skies this
night - hear his hammer strike the lightning, the wheels of his great chariot rumbling fit
to shake the earth? The Giants will be shaking in their stony beds! You seek
knowledge? As do I, my friend, as do I - truly, I too have much to learn.
Rest, sleep if you will. This much I do know - if I can set you on your true path
again in the morning, that will be reward enough...
I have dedicated this simple page to the Gods and Goddesses of Asgar� in
general, and to my patron Thor - long may he thunder - in particular!
I am called by ancestry and by destiny to the Faith of the Old Gods of the North - named Asatru by some, Odinism by others. If you are so called to the heathen path, then be doubly welcome!
The path of the Gods is no easy one - ingrained in us by modern 'civilisation' are many things that are the opposite of what you must hold most dear if you are to walk the Way of Wyrd. You must cast aside the petty greed and trivia of modern times, you must stand aside from the 'path of least resistance' and take hold of your destiny with both hands.
To be self-reliant, to prize honour and loyalty, to take responsibility
for your life, to stand for what is right and to aid others if they are in need, to
cherish the Folk and the Family, to be in harmony with nature and the Gods - these are the
ways of the North. They are not easy ways to follow - I know this to be true, who
have chosen to set foot on the path my ancestors trod a thousand years ago. Yet
there is great joy in the way of the Old Gods, and to those who walk it in all honour is
given the gift of knowledge and self-knowledge alike.
For many years we have been encouraged not to do things for ourselves, but to let others be responsible for our lives and the world around us. To think only of rights and not of the privileges that we are granted by nature - and see where the world stands now? Now we must also make a stand, to fight for Gods and Men, or the fools who let greed be their guide will surely bring a new breed of Ragnarok upon us.
This humble page seeks to offer a few paths which
may help you to choose the way of the North for yourself. The choice is yours.
Choose well, my friend. May you leave here refreshed, and if you find your destiny
from this small beginning, then I have been rewarded a thousand-fold. Let Thor ward
you on your way!
