Recap:
Charleston, IL (SLN) -- In a matchup worthy of being called an instant classic, The Commish came back from an almost insurmountable 1-goal deficit with 16.7 seconds left in the third period, squeaking a rebound past the goalie of The House, then went on to nail the winning shot midway through the third overtime, completing an improbable comeback that saw an immense show of goaltending by The House go for naught in the final seconds of regulation, and later in overtime. Both teams' goaltending was all-star quality, with only one goal given up by each team in regulation. In the overtime, the defense was that much higher, giving up very few chances and not allowing many good shots for either team. A key penalty on left-winger Tim Brechlin gave The Commish a power play and the momentum the team would need to score the winning goal. The goal allowed by The House was contested by the coach, protesting that the center for The Commish, Michael Frain, was in the crease, but to no avail. Replays showed his skate was parallel to the crease line, and therefore legal. His teammate, Claire Salz, put away the game winner, officially unassisted, 8:21 into the third overtime and over 48 minutes past the regulation time. Fifteen records were set or tied in this decisive third game, including longest game (108:21), longest time without a goal (The House, 89:49) and total shots on goal (85). The Commish repeats as ISL champ, despite a revamped roster with untested talent. Remarked player-coach-GM Frain, "Just because they're untested doesn't mean they can't win. This game proved it right here. We didn't give up just because we were down 1-0. Even with time running out we had no doubt we would win this game." Future plans for the team were not discussed, in favor of celebrating the team's second consecutive championship.
