The Clay Pot Style is one of my standard bowl designs, and dates from the Missippian Mound-builder Period. Many, similar, Pipes have been found in and around the Mounds by archaeologists. These Pipes require about 20 hours work to produce.

Decoration differs a great deal, pipe to pipe, but the bowl is the same. These Bowls come in Catlinite and Steatite, and range in size from 4" to 6". They are made completely by hand of Natural Stone, which may contain some small fractures which occur naturally. The   Steatite I use comes from areas in North and South Carolina where there are natural outcroppings, and it is all a hard grade of rock that takes a high polish. many times, I have micacious stone, which will have thousands of flecks of Mica in it, making the polished stone glitter like stars in the night sky.

Colors range from a deep, translucent, green (Stone from Fontana, NC) to jet black.  The Bowl above is of a Black, Micacious Variety which we call Pearl Black. There is only one known place on earth to get this Stone, and that is The Qualla Boundery, where I grew up.

I make stems from only 2 types of wood, Appalachian Aromatic Red Cedar, and Sourwood. The pipe above has a Cedar stem. Stems are cut to ballance the bowl and range from 14" to 18" in length. Usually, the two piece ceremonial Pipes have flat cedar stems as shown above. Please specify stem length desired when ordering.

All other materials used in decoration are natural bone and antler, glass beads, fur and feathers which are by-products of Agriculture. I refuse to use antler or fur that is wild trapped . The antler I use is naturally shed by Buck Deer after the Rutt, and gathered from the ground.

Not including the Gathering of materials and stone, the Clay Pot Pipe represents 22-25 hours of work each.

A 4" - 6" Clay Pot Bowl Pipe, which is 2-piece, decorated, and signed by me, in either Catlinite or Steatite can be yours for --$175.00 US
plus shipping.  This same Pipe is available in Alabaster.

These Pipes are Steatite, exclusively, and come WITH decoration. The Stems on these Pipes are Sourwood, exclusively, and the Pipe is 1-piece. Each is 9 - 12" in length.
The Price on these is $30.00. I will have a pic up, soon, on a decorated version. I made the one above for a Traditional Friend who wanted a 'travel' Pipe for his Back-pack, and in cases like that, People need to decorate their own. If you want an undecorated one, I gladly make it for you @$22.50 . I will do Catlinite versions of this Pipe on special order; write for prices.
