Who We Are...
King School Galesburg, Illinois

Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary School is located in Galesburg, Illinois. We are usually just called King School. We have over three hundred and fifty students attending grades kindergarden thru fifth. The school was built in 1976.

Dr. E.J. Brown is our Principal.

Galesburg is located in west-central Illinois, about half-way between Peoria and the Rock Island-Moline area. We are about 45 miles east of the Mississippi River.

The town has a little over 30,000 people and is the county seat of Knox County.

Our town was important in the development of the railroads. It is the home of Knox College and Carl Sandburg College. Carl Sandburg was born and lived here. President Ronald Reagan went to school here and President Clinton has visited the town.

The Students

Mrs. Wenstrom's fourth grade class is the reason for this web page. They have been involved in an extended study of Ancient Egypt. We have been very enthusiastic about the study. We have e-mailed questions about Ancient Egypt to Dr. Bob Brier, a noted Egyptologist at Long Island University. He has written books about Egypt. One of the books is about a conspiracy to kill King Tut. He also performed a real mummification, using the Ancient Egyptian ways in 1994.

We have visited a museum to see two real mummies. We are doing a research project called "Egyptian Art: The Great Flood."
