Created by Lenny Blooming Rings The idea behind this animation was to begin with 3 rings, then rotate each ring about a common point in separate X, Y, or Z axis. Each ring is rotated in 10 degree increments to create this is an 18 frame repeating animation. This was the first animation created in this series. When I started this animation, I didn't know what to expect, but the result speaks for itself. Boxed In I wanted to show 6 rings, oriented like the sides of a box, and rotate them around a sphere. The group was rotated in 10 degree increments on the Z axis to create this 9 frame repeating animation. This is the second in the series. Spinning Rings The idea here was a 3 sided pyramid and base formed with rings, then rotate them as a group in 10 degree increments on the Z axis to create this 9 frame repeating animation. Third in this series. Rendered Torus This animation was originally shaded and added to my "How to Animate " page on this site. After completing the previous animations shown here, I decided to render this one as well. How these animations were created: The geometry, for all of these animations, was created in AutoCAD R14. The geometry was repositioned in AutoCAD R14 for each frame and then rendered out to a 16 bit Targa ".tga " file by AutoCAD R14. After a series of ROTATE and RENDER commands, all of the necessary Targa files were created. Each targe file was converted to bmp format so they could be brought into Microsoft Paint where a mask is applied to create a round picture instead of the normal square picture. Images were converted agin, but this time to 256 color gif format which were then brought into GIF Movie Gear where the final animation was composed. Here the color animations were optimized and frames were converted to share a common pallet so the color depth could be further reduced to decrease the size of the animations. For more informations on animations, please see my other page " How To Animate" which explains what an animation is, how it works, how to create one, and where to find helpful tools.
