AND OUR STORY BEGINS...
|
After releasing Pars slaves from their masters, Prince Arslan and his company
find themselves chased by Lusitanian soldiers. |
|
They started to run away from them, going higher in the Nimuruzu mountains,
but the Lusitanians still manage to follow them closely. |
|
Stopping to plan their next move, Darun says that he should stay behind
to slow down the Lusitanians while the others make their escape but Arslan
refuses to put him in danger. Narcasse agrees, and thinks the only way to
escape is through ingenuity. They are going to split up to confuse the enemy. |
|
They set a meeting place, the fortress of Peshwald, on the eastern border
with Shindra, where the last intact forces of Pars still hold on.
And then they leave, Farangis and Darun on one side, Guibu, Eram and
Arslan on another, Narcasse going alone. |
|
That night, Arslan has a dream. He remembered his lonely childhood and
the restraint out on him because of his noble birth. He also reminisced
about the death of his nanny, the only person who ever cared for him, much
more than his cold mother ever did.
The Golden Crown reminds him of the transition between his carefree childhood
and the death and suffering that marked his beginnings as a ruler, and an
adult, on the bloody soil of Atoropatene. |
|
He is awakened from his nightmare by Eram, only to see the Lusitanians charge
right past them. Hirumes warned Zande and the others of where he thought
the Crown Prince was heading, and they are trying to beat him there. |
|
Faced with the possibility of being seen, Guibu, Eram and Arslan leave their
makeshift camp in a hurry, to get to Peshwald as soon as possible. |
|
Meanwhile, Narcasse had chosen a more southern route, through the Pars desert.
(look for camels on the map)
On his way, he came across Hirumes and his troops, finishing a fight with
the nomadic Zotto Clan. All were dead except for a red-headed girl of about
16. |
|
She tried to attack Hirumes, as revenge for her father's death, but to no
avail, he was too fast and he disarmed her. As Narcasse made his presence
known, she asked him for his sword, which he refused her. |
|
Narcasse, from his vantage point on the outcropping of stone, saw a sandstorm
coming their way, and chose this moment to intervene... |
