AND OUR STORY CONTINUES...

In Peshwald, life goes on normally, Alfreed and Eram constantly bickering over who would get to look after Narcasse.

But Farangis feels something is wrong. The spirits are restless and she feels that this castle is the last bastion of hope in the Kingdom.

She soon hears Alfreed sneaking nearby, and talks to her of the affection she has for Narcasse, and of the consequences that it might bring is she becomes a hindrance instead of a help. She also reveals her story as a Priestess to the girl and they start to forge a friendship.

Guibu is enjoying himself, and wondering about his role in this adventure, and whether or not he is losing himself and his ways.
After a strategy meeting, Darun and Narcasse catch up with Bachman, a Pars Shogun, to ask him about his seeming ambivalence to the presence of Crown Prince Arslan in the fortress of Peswald.
After being provoked, Bachman tell them that all the trouble started with Darun's uncle, Bafreez, then left, pretending he had a headache.
Darun and Narcasse are left to ponder his words. Is he planning on betraying the Prince? And what about this letter that Bafreez sent to Bachman just before he died in Atoropatene?
In his room, Bachman is startled by a strange visitor. It is Hirumes, and he reminds the old man of how he had been his teacher, when he had lived in Peshwald, 16 years ago, as the Crown Prince. Once he takes off his mask, Bachman recognizes him as Prince Hirumes. But the visitor also mentions he is here to ask him an important question, and Bachman panics and flees his rooms, Hirumes following him.
Outside of his rooms, Bachman is seen by Prince Arslan, who runs to see him, only to find himself in front of Hirumes. The latter tells him that he is the legitimate heir to the Kingdom of Pars and that his Father, Andragoras, was a traitor, and that he is nothing more than a common boy, not a noble. Arslan entreats Bachman to tell him the truth but he is paralyzed with fear and does not answer.

They start to fight, until light from a fire reflects itself in Arslan's sword and Hirumes starts to panic, knocking down an oil lamp. The hem of his cape starts to burn and Hirumes screams in anguish.

The noise gathers Darun, Narcasse and Quishwald to the scene. Quishwald being the first to reach the fight.

Quishwald was getting the upper hand, and ready to give Hirumes the death blow when Bachman threw himself between them, telling the Shogun he must not kill his opponent, because he is of royal blood.

Darun arrives, sword drawn, and the dying Bachman crawled towards him to stop him from hurting Hirumes.
