Chapter 37
I See The Light

Luckily, we were all able to calm down after the entire garden ordeal. Which I would appreciate if you were to erase from your memories forever. Frederick had managed to get us all together and we were sitting around, listening as he patiently tried to explain something to us.
"So you see, because of the direction, force, speed, angle and momentum of the suns, this should happen within every rotation of the Earth!"
52 blank faces stared back at him. Mine not included. I was too busy trying to find my stone, which had gotten lost during the earlier . . . escapade. Anyway, I didn't have the stone and I knew I was gonna be in big trouble if I didn't find it. I could hear Frederick sigh.
"So, in your terms, the eclipse happens once a day." he said to the guys. They erupted in cheers and started slapping each other on the back. "Now all we have to do is wait around for it."
Just as he finished his speech I noticed the stone over on a hill. I went over and picked it up, examining it for cracks. Frederick joined me and we sat down. He picked up my half of the stone and joined it with his. This time they stuck together and wouldn't come apart.
"Hmm," said Frederick. "There must be a notch that we didn't notice before."
"Could be," I said quietly. Frederick leaned in closer.
"What did you say?" he asked me, with a teasing smile on his face.
"Oh, nothing, it's not important." He laughed and then slowly put his arm around me. I laid my head on his shoulder, it was such a perfect fit I could've sworn it was meant only for me. He was no longer wearing his bath robe, the guys had given him something else to wear. His clothes were worn and soft. I snuggled in closer and he tightened his grip. He brought his hands up to my hair and began stroking it. A small shiver travelled up my spine and I felt a tingly sensation. I could feel him smiling. I lifted my head up and nuzzled his neck. It felt so soft and smooth. I was so involved in him that I didn't even notice when 50 heads turned to stare at the castle. He used his hand on my head to reposition it so I was staring directly into his eyes. They were still just as beautiful as they always had been. A sparkle was emitting from behind them. He used both arms now to wrap me up in a big hug, never losing eye contact. I smiled at him, trying my best to send some sort of message via ESP. It was something like "Kiss me! Kiss me now! C'mon, you can do it, you know you want to. Kiss me." He put his cheek against mine and brought his mouth closer and closer to my lips. I could feel the very corner of his lips touching mine and it was everything I could do to keep from turning my head and kissing him first. Then, at the very peak of my excitement, he jerked away abruptly and looked off behind me, wide-eyed. Shocked, angered and somewhat embarrassed, I looked away and tried not to cry. I pushed against him, trying to get up so I could run before my eyes began to water. He tightened his grip and held me down. I hit his shoulder with my fist.
"Frederick! What are you doing?" I asked, furious now. "Let go of me!"
"You'd better do what she says," said a familiar voice from behind me that caused me to stop short. "she can get pretty violent."
I gasped and whipped my head around. "You!" I cried, upon recognizing Alicia's face and scarred neck. I glared at her until my vision expanded and I noticed that she was standing at the front of a very big blockade of girls. Probably at least 6 times as many as ever before. They were all staring at us
"You are in some big trouble now!" she yelled. "Godiva has never been more furious of anything in her life and she had ordered the immediate execution of all of you!" she said, waving a finger at the workers as well as us. She continued babbling for a while but no one was listening. They were all standing there, still glaring disgustedly at me and Frederick.
"How can she touch him!" one anonymous voice yelled from the crowd.
"Not only that, but did you see what they were about to do!" another one screamed. I cringed at the mention of our kiss. I could feel Frederick looking at me and I turned to face him. His eyes told me that he was upset.
"I'm sorry," he whispered in my ear.
 "For what?" I asked him.
"Whatever I did," he replied, looking bewildered and removing his eyes from mine. He stared off at the girls who were now mesmerized by the site before them. I took his chin in my hand and steered his eyes back to mine.
"Ignore them." I whispered with a smile on my face. A grin spread across his face and the twinkle returned to his eyes.
"If it were any other circumstances, that wouldn't be possible." he said, with the authority returning to his voice. "But right now, I think we could easily be the only two people on this cursed planet." With that, he wrapped his arms around my waist and leaned in to place a soft, delicious kiss on my lips.
A shiver that started at my toes and rushed up to my head, filling it with dizziness, caused Frederick to only wrap his arms tighter around me and reposition his lips, sending another sensation up my spine. I brought my hands up to his neck and leaned in closer.

We were soon interrupted by a bright light coming from all directions. I could hear panic-stricken voices screaming everywhere. There was confusion all around us and no one could see anything. I ignored the disarray and kept my focus on Frederick. Then I felt Frederick beginning to slip away from me. The bright light was fading along with him. I screamed his name and grabbed him tighter. He took my hands and pulled himself toward me, just long enough for one more quick kiss; before he was gone.
