Five short years later the nylon is invented…
Nylon is one of the most commonly used synthetic, or man-made, fibers. It has proved to be an ideal replacement for most uses of silk.  (Silk is a polymer which is a vital parts of many living organisms, a natural substance composed of long chains of molecules.) Nylon is a synthetic polymer, it's basis is coal or petroleum in a solution from which filaments, fibers, or sheets can be drawn. In 1934 Carothers from Du Pont came up with a nylon-6,6 that did not melt in low heat. It was put on the market in as artificial silk. The name nylon was given to it in 1940. Its first most common use was in women's stockings, which were soon called nylons. In the first year of manufacture the company sold 64 million pairs. Then American entered World War II, and nylon was quickly adapted for use in parachutes.

When Nomi was only 11…
The first successful helicopter was designed and built by Igor Sikorsky. Although developed after the airplane, the helicopter grew out of an idea that is several hundred years old. In the late Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci drew (left) up a plan for such a flying machine. In the early 20th century experiments with vertical flight failed for lack of a powerful enough engine. Once the principle was established, helicopter design and development progressed rapidly. By the 1960s it had become one of the most versatile weapon of war.
