Whether you call it a cougar, mountain lion, panther, puma, or catamount they are all one in the same..a very majestic animal that inspires awe. The cougar personifies strength, grace, stealth, and the wilderness spirit. A very secretive creature it is rarely seen by humans and when they are, it is only for a few seconds. A cougar is not a dangerous animal unless provoked. It stays to itself, hunting small game and deer when available. It is scared of humans and will only approach when too old or starving. A cougar will only attacked if cornered or its young is being threatened. Unlike other predator cat species the cougar is active in both day and night. The male of the species can grow to be over 8 feet long and weight about 150lbs. Though it size is large it is incredibly agile and powerful, leaping to heights of 18 feet or more and powerful arms and claws that are used to take down deer. Currently they habitat in California and some regions of Florida. Cougars are a very adaptable species and can live from high mountain ranges to the desert, and to marsh areas like the everglades in Florida.
