Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
A little faith will bring your soul to heaven, but a lot of faith will bring heaven to your soul.
- Dwight L. Moody
1837-1899; US Protestant preacher of simple, traditional Christianity
Prayer for Self Improvement
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace
That where there is hatred I may bring love,
That where there is wrong I may bring the spirit of forgiveness,
That where there is discord I may bring harmony,
That where there is error I may bring truth,
That where there is doubt I may bring faith,
That where there are shadows I may bring thy light,
That where there is sadness I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather
To comfort -- than to be comforted;
To understand -- than to be understood;
To love -- than to be loved;
For it is by giving that one receives;
It is by self-forgetting that one finds;
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven;
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
- St. Francis of Assisi

Fans Gather at Strawberry Fields
Fans gathered before dawn Friday to pay their respects to former Beatle George Harrison at Strawberry Fields, the section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
Harrison, 58, died Thursday of lung cancer in Los Angeles. News of his death became public early Friday, and within hours dozens of Beatle enthusiasts headed to the park for an impromptu memorial. Many left flowers, candles and notes at a makeshift shrine, while others paused to reflect before continuing to or from work.
Joe Crow Ramsey, 48, an engineer from Tuxedo Park, placed a green apple at the memorial, recalling the trademark of Apple Records, the record label that produced several Beatles albums.
"I spent my childhood watching that apple go round and round on records," he said.
Strawberry Fields, which takes its name from the Lennon-McCartney song "Strawberry Fields Forever," was dedicated to John after his 1980 shooting death at the hands of a deranged fan. On any given day, a lighted candle or vase of flowers can be seen there on a mosaic with the word "IMAGINE."
ABC Buys TV Rights to 'Harry Potter'
The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is sticking with its A-B-Cs.
In a joint announcement with Warner Bros. Thursday, television network ABC said it secured the television rights to the hit movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and that Warner's has acquired rights to its sequel, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."
The sequel is expected to arrive in theaters next November.
Cost of acquiring the movie and TV rights was not disclosed.
'"Harry Potter' is already considered a timeless family classic that audiences all over the world have embraced in record numbers," said Eric Frankel, president of Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution. "We think that ABC, with its multifamily platforms, is a terrific vehicle to showcase this film."
ABC said it has a 10-year license to show each film and plans to air them first on its broadcast network. They will then go to cable, including the Disney Channel.
The Walt Disney Company is ABC's parent.
Brooks' Album Is Best Country Debut
Garth Brooks' new disc, "Scarecrow," which debuted at the top of the charts last week, was the best debut of a country music project since his live album three years ago.
"Scarecrow" was released on Nov. 13 and sold approximately 466,000 in its first week. Brooks' "Double Live" sold just over 1 million its first week in 1998. Sales of country music have been flat for the past five years.
"Considering business conditions for country music, obviously (the Brooks) record stands head-and-shoulders above the rest," said Wade Jessen, the editor of the country chart for Billboard magazine. "This is a very big opening week."
Classic Christmas Book Reproduced
It's a touching tale of hope and goodwill, of believing in something overwhelmingly good. It takes place in New York 54 years ago, but it's as meaningful today as it was then.
Now "Miracle on 34th Street" has been reproduced in a handsome facsimile of the original 1947 book by Harcourt Inc. The small, hardcover edition, measuring 7 3/4 inches by 5 inches, has been faithfully copied down to the original typeface - positioning and spacing of all the words re-created line for line.
"Miracle on 34th Street" is the classic Christmas story of Kris Kringle, a gentle, white-bearded gentleman hired by Macy's as its store Santa. He convinces a doubting 6-year-old, Susan Walker, and a New York court that he is the real Santa Claus.
The book enchanted a postwar America, as did the movie, starring Edmund Gwenn as Santa and a young Natalie Wood as the little girl he helps.
Anna Burgard, director of product development at Harcourt, decided to re-create the original book because, she said, "I realized how relevant the story still was.
"It takes place in the 1940s, but Kris Kringle talks about his disappointment over the commercialism of Christmas. It's about a single mother raising a child in her own trust system, which was not believing ... in fairy tales, being practical and sensible to the extreme, of not playing, having no imagination. "All that is part of OUR world," Burgard said. "The book, while nostalgic, is modern."
And after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, Burgard said she felt the simple tale could be "healing in a non-preachy way.
"The thread of the story is that one person's goodwill can still make a tremendous impact," she said. Written originally as a screenplay by Valentine Davies, the book and film by the same name were released simultaneously in 1947. The book was an instant best seller and the movie won three Academy Awards for Davies, Gwenn and director George Seaton.
'Millionaire' May Air Without Regis
A prime-time "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" on ABC without Regis Philbin? It could happen.
An ABC executive, who said it's not certain the game show will be back on the network schedule next fall, raised the possibility Thursday that someone other than Philbin will be asking for final answers.
Complicating matters is the launch of a half-hour, syndicated version of the game show next fall. No host has been named for that show.
"There's no way he can do both versions," said ABC entertainment chairman Lloyd Braun. "Physically, it's just not possible." Ultimately, it will probably be up to Philbin to decide whether he wants to be on the five-night-a-week syndicated show or any prime-time version of "Millionaire," Braun said.
Two years after it was the sensation of television and made a fortune for ABC, the game show has fallen on hard times. Its ratings are down sharply this fall, particularly among younger viewers. Philbin complained during his daytime talk show, "Live with Regis and Kelly," on Thursday that "Millionaire" was given two tough time slots this fall, on Monday and Thursday nights. Thursday, in particular, it's up against strong programming on CBS and NBC.
"It's like cannon fodder for the night," he said.
Philbin predicted that "Millionaire" would go away in prime-time "and then they'll bring it back with a comedian, a red-hot comedian, which is really what they want. They want it to become a comedy show."
He wouldn't discuss whether he wants to be host of the syndicated "Millionaire," and wasn't available for further comment, a spokeswoman said.
