I found out what the source of the voices was, my next step was to find
a way to communicate with them. It may seem weird to most people
to try and make friends with those that might kill me! But, if I
wanted to have any intelligent friends while I lived here, the wolves seemed
to be my only choice. So I listened for a while to learn the difference
in their mental touch or should I say voices? Over a period of two
weeks I mentally followed and listened, every now and then I would get
a mental flash of an image. I noticed that the images showed only
three different wolves, and during that time I learned which "voice" went
with which wolf. "[WhiteFoot] That shiny
rock is still by the trees where Blackie found the strange creature.
I think we should find out more about them, maybe there is more of them
around!" "[Patch] We should wait close to it and see if they
are dangerous or even worth eating." "[Blackie] I don't know
about that!!! I told you that it emitted a bright white light that
hurt my eyes, I think they are dangerous!!!" "[Patch] Well
I am the leader and I say that we should stay close to the shiny rock,
and watch them. We need to know if we should kill the creature, or
move to another spot to live! Either way... we have to watch it to
know!" "[WhiteFoot] I think that is the best thing we can do
too!" So they stood outside watching me for weeks too!
So there we were, watching each other. I came
out during the day and they hid, they came out at night and I hid.
A strange way to watch each other, also a way that didn't produce many
results! So I made me a strong shelter and camouflaged it.
Before dark I would go out and hide in it and watch. They came closer
to the shuttle as time passed by, no longer were they afraid of the light.
But it every time it came on they would back off to the woods, so I asked
D'ANA not to turn it on unless I asked her to. To my surprise I noticed
that it didn't matter how close or how far away the wolves were, I could
hear them as if they were right next to me. Also the more I listened
in the easier it was each time, and I could almost see through their eyes
anytime I wanted to. But it scared me know that they were wondering
if I would make a good meal. Even though their thoughts were of alarming
subjects, I became dependent on them. I began to need to hear them...
to know that I am not alone! That alone made me understand that I
needed to make contact with them. I picked a night to talk to them
when I could see them on this rise by the water. "[Blackie]
I followed the creature before sundown, and I know where it's shelter is
hidden! You see that bump over there by the trees, the creature hides
in a burrow in there." "[Patch] You can smell it on the wind...
but it is not scared of us! Or we would be able to smell it's fear."
"[WhiteFoot] I think it is harmless to us, otherwise it would have
attacked us by now!!!" "[Patch] It doesn't smell like it would
be a very tasty meal." "[Blackie] Well let's kill it or leave
here for another place, I am getting bored with this game!!!" "[Zen]
Hello! Hello, can you hear me???" "[WhiteFoot] What was
that?" "[Patch] Come let's go, let's go far away from here!!!"
Aaaauuuuuuuuuuuuuuwwwwwwww.... They all howled and left. Where
they went I don't know, but one thing for sure is, I couldn't hear their
voices anymore. I don't think it was the distance that caused the
silence, because it never mattered before. I was always able to hear
them. But now, there was no mental voices just silence!!!
The silence seemed to last forever week after week
went by. Finally I gave up on them, and went back to my studies.
On occasion I could feel the tears well up in my eyes, whenever I realized
that I was going to die a lonely person... an outcast exiled because I
was different. Now on a planet where I am the only human, I also
become the outcast because I am different! At least one good thing
about the wolves leaving, I was free to explore the area around D'ANA and
the campsite. But even tht got old! I missed my wolf friends,
if I am allowed to use the term friends.
