The senior high school Family and Consumer Sciences Child Development Laboratory program is designed to support
the competencies of the child development courses. High school students, under professional supervision, plan and
lead developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children, in career preparation for future roles as parents,
child care workers, teachers, and related professions.
Since the preschool program is a laboratory experience for high school students, the children are taught primarily
by high school students with professional supervision. The child development course is an "elective"
and therefore we cannot guarantee that we will have enough enrollment to have two sessions of preschool. However,
This course has been a popular elective and pre-registration numbers indicate two sessions of preschool. One session
will probably be shorter in length so we may be able to take some *3-year-olds in the shorter session, along with
younger fours. Priority will be given to four-year-olds.
Be aware that all children must be toilet-trained.
At the bottom of your application form you will find a place to indicate your preference for morning or afternoon
sessions. Please be flexible. If you are aware that you might be car-pooling with someone, please let us know this
so that we can assign you to the same session.
Children are admitted to our preschool program on the basis of:
- residence or day care in Northwest's attendance area
- reaching age 4 by January 1 (See * in paragraph above)
- balance of boys and girls
- ethnic balance reflecting the high school's population
- date of receiving application and deposit
