PenPals.

Since several years I've been writing with people all around the world. First by snail-mail, and later by e-mail. The story behind my interest in writing is pretty long, but if your interested, feel free to read on further. It all started about 12 years ago when in Suriname the civil war was going on, at that time I watched the news on television so I wouldn't miss anything about what was happening there. Not for the sensation, because that doesn't interest me, No I watched because my teacher has tolled me to, because he wanted me to write a story about this war. It was then when a relative of my told me that the news wasn't always so objective, because the could only show what those things that they were allowed to show and then they could only film the things when they were there at the moment things happened. My relative told me then that if I wanted information about the situation over there, that I should try to contact one or more local people because they see and feel precisely what is happening and they can give an objective descibtion of what is happening. So I started surching for PenPals in Suriname, and after a little while I found 3 PenPals, and I was surprised about the information that came to me, with every letter I found out more about the people who live there, and also about their culture and habits. After I finished school, I've kept contact with these PenPals, in fact, it became a hobby of my, and I started to write with people all around the world. Unfortunately is the mail delivery not always so reliable, and sometimes it could take up to 3 months before a letter was delivered, and that was for me and the others with whom I wrote to frustrating, so one by one the PenPals have quit writing. Now a few years later, I've a computer and an internet access, so I have a new opportunity to start writing again, and I can say that writing by e-mail instead of snail mail is much better, even writing with people in countries where the mail delivery is not so good, is writing by e-mail a new possibility. So I've started my hobby all over again, to learn more about people around the world, but also about the differences between people and their habits. I think it is very interesting to know more about all people, and it doesn't care if they are black,white, red or yellow, it are all humans with their own stories and lives. And perhaps the most important reason for writing is that the more you get to know someone, in the way that you show respect for their culture, religion, habits and so on, the more you're gonna accept the differences and see each other more as your equal. Because understanding each other makes accepting each other.
