He rushed
over to the creature that was hunched over,
chewing his prey. Lenny's crying had become
quieter, as if in surrender. As he approached,
he could see that the beast was not eating
right away, but mangling with it's razor
teeth, sinking it's fangs into Lenny, then
moving to another spot.
Fenton
charged the beast with full force, holding
the pipe above his head, bracing himself
to strike the strange being with all his
strength. The thing turned to look at him
in the split second before the pipe came
down on it's head. Fenton felt the pipe
make impact on it's skull, but it made no
injury to the massive beast.
The creature
lashed out with one massive limb and threw
Fenton across the landscape, sending him
at least thirty feet, knocking the wind
out of him upon impact to the ground. The
mad beast leapt in one forceful launch from
his perch on top of Lenny and landed over
Fenton. It's hind legs straddling Fenton,
and resting it's front paws on Fenton's
shoulders, it leaned it's massive head in
close to inspect Fenton. Fenton froze.
Their eyes
locked to one another. It's eyes were a
sharp yellow that reflected back at him.
They were clear and determined. It dug it's
front claws into Fenton's shoulders, but
only slightly, as if to make it's point.
The thing's breath smelled of death as it
snorted into Fenton's face. It's scaly skin
shined lightly in what little light the
moon provided.
It raised
up it's hind quarters bringing it's massive
front end closer to Fenton's face. The blast
from it's nostrils blew Fenton's hair back
and made his ears flutter. It let out a
low guttural growl making Fenton whimper
slightly. He was shaking uncontrollably
from fear. Fenton felt he could go mad.
It stared
for only a moment more at Fenton, then released
it's grip from Fenton's shoulders. It pulled
itself up onto it's hind legs, showing it's
true height to Fenton. The thing towered
maybe fifteen feet tall on it's haunches.
Then it opened it's enormous wings revealing
a span about twenty feet wide. It was as
Lenny had described, but Lenny had not captured
in his description the being-from-hell's
essence of pure evil.
It jumped
into the air and cupped the wind beneath
it's wings, pushing itself higher into the
air and gracefully glided over to Lenny,
where he landed with the full force of it's
body weight directly on Lenny's rib cage,
crushing his torso with the sick sound of
crushing bones.
Fenton
rose to his feet and backed away from the
thing, and it stared back at him. They did
not trust each other, and they would not
give one another a single opportunity to
attack. The creature did not fear Fenton,
but it seemed to want some kind of respect.
As Fenton
backed away a safe distance, the beast turned
to it's evening dinner of fresh Lenny.
