Mayahuel was a relatively minor goddess, except for the fact that she, along with Ehacatl, created physical love. Ehacatl abducted her from the underworld, and the two fled to Earth. They became so intertwined that they formed a tree with two trunks. However, Tzizimitl, Mayahuel's guardian, chased them and found them. She split the two branches and destroyed Mayahuel but left Ehacatl unharmed. Ehacatl then gathered Mayahuel's remains and buried her. On her grave grew a vine from which white wine flowed.
