Dora Diamant (also spelled Dymant), (1900?-1952). She was the daughter of an Orthodox rabbi and was fluent in Hebrew and Yiddish. Although it is claimed that she was 19 years old when Franz met her, in fact she seems to have been at least 4 or 5 years older. They met while Franz was vacationing at a resort town on the Baltic Sea in 1923, and the two hit it off. She really seemed to understand him, and they moved to Berlin together. This only lasted for a few months; then Franz's health took a turn for the worse and he was forced into a succession of sanatoriums, finally ending up at one near Vienna where he died. The night before his death, Dora noticed an owl perched on the windowsill, a symbol of both darkness and light as well as wisdom.
