Milena became Kafka's first Czech translator, and her admiration of him knew no bounds. She wrote a lengthy obituary for him after he died, mentioning that he seemed to be another, purer kind of person who couldn't live in this world; so he went to his death. Due to her activities she was sent to the women's concentration camp at Ravensbruck by the Nazis, where she died in 1944.
