You fear that Erik is about to kidnap Christine and you know what will happen if he does; he'll be rejected all over again. Your heart aches for him and think that you could possible change places with Christine. You get up and try to get out but Michael pulls you back into your seat.
"Where do you think you're going?" he hisses.
"To save Christine," you reply, unaware of how stupid that sounds.
"Christine isn't the one who needs saving," Tatiana whispers. "It's us."
"She's right," Michael says. "Now stay put."
"I can't," you say angrily, pulling away from him, hurt that he doesn't understand.
You push past him and he reaches for you, but Tatiana stops him.
"Let her be. Her own stupidity will be the death of her."
Anger fills you and you try to get pass upset theater goers who don't appreciate you stepping on them.
You are halfway to the aisle when you hear a mighty croak uttered from the diva. You freeze. From the corner of your eye you see the fairy girl pulling Michael along in the opposite direction, frantic to get him out. Carlotta gives several more croaks, and the audience begins to murmur in dismay. Then you hear a voice in your right ear,
"The way she's singing tonight, she'll bring down the chandelier!"
In horror you realize your mistake. For one reason or another you look down instead of up and find yourself looking into the eyes of a fat, repulsive woman dressed in black. She's smiling a mocking smile at you, revealing yellow teeth that look like a row of corn-on-the-cob. Then she fades into nothingness before you're eyes. You look around, still frozen to the spot. The Opera is empty, the curtains are closed on the stage. Everthing is as it was when you first entered, except Michael and Tatiana are gone. You hear something that sounds like a chain slipping. You jerk your head up and your eyes widen.
The next morning Paris headlines run:
The Opera Polulaire's infamous chandelier falls for the first time in well over a century!
Two hundred thousand kilos on a foreign girl's head.
And that is your sole epitaph!
                           The End
