Despite growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania *grin* I have cultivated pretty eclectic intersts.
I will openly admit that I LOVE bad movies. I have a few categories of these beloved films. First there are the old Japanese monster movies. You know the ones I am talking about, Godzilla stomping down Tokyo, Rodan flying overing the mountains and the Twin Faeries calling Mothra to save the day. Bad, but fabulous monsters, and bad bad baaaaad dubbing.
Then there are the Camp Classics ~ Vally of the Dolls. Who can forget Neally rolling around in ther mink behind the theatre finding God. Come to think iof it, what is it with the mink coats in this movie. Anne clings dearly to her mink as she takes the train back to aunty in snowy Lawerenceville. As she sits at her window, watching the small towns go by, you can she he thinking "Don't you love my mink". There there is the Bad Seed. Evil little Rhoda hitting poor little Claude Dagle with her tap shoes to gain the precious penmanship medal and her mother pounding her pelvis area when she finds out she is the daughter of a murdeous femme fatale. Mommie Dearest. Need I say more. Then the campest of the camp, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Where else can two diva's get together with lots of torment and lots of bad bad bad make up? "But you are Blache you are!!!".
Finally there are FABulous Fag Classics. Toping this list is one of my personal favorites, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Lorelli Lee and Dorthy Shaw scampering off to Europe on a luxary liner with entire men's Olympic team, Lord and Lady Beakman and a cute private eye. Who could ask for more?? "Oh Piggy!!!" Then, of course, is Auntie Mame with Roz Russell. After seeing that movie, I decided to be an Auntie Mame to my neice and nephew. Sadly I was lacking a boozing best friend. Finally, The Women is an inspring tale of good over evil. Mary gets he man back from the evil temptress Crystal. "Jungle Red".
Musical theatre is also an artform that I have developed an appreaction over the years. Some of my favorite shows are Chicago, Evitas, Gypsy, Mame, Rent, Sunset Blvdand When Bigs Fly.
Music is another HUGE interest of mine. I have accumulated over 600+ CD's over the years. They range from ABBA to zydeco gris~gris. Some of my favorite areLaurie Anderson, Aqua, Chumbawamba, Dead Can Dance, Enigma, Ella Fitzgerald, Harajuku, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna{big shock I know}Bette Midler, No Doubt, Edith Piaf, Barbra Streisand and Tina Turner. Some of the more interesting additions to my collection are Kitaro, Hildegard Von Bingen and Cirque Du Soleil.
Television has had an effect on me, as with other members of my generation {GO GEN~Xer's!!}. Growing up, I watched reruns of Star Trek and Bewitched. I was a devout follower of WonderWoman {come on, being able to spin around like that and change clothes like that ... a fag's dream}. I have to admit that there was a small crush on Steve Trevor too. Speaking of crushes, Lee Majoar was another heart throb from my early years. When I was finally able to watch "grown up" shows, I was infrom my my parent's t.v. every Wednesday night at 9:00 for Dynasty. I would watch with evy and wonder as Crustal and Alexis battled it out. Let's not forget Falin and Sammy Jo fighting it out. Besides, that was the first time I saw a fag on television. How many nights I did I fall asleep dreaming of Stephen Carrington flying to Erie and taking me to his penthouse in Denver. *sigh* I was heart broken when Dynasty went off the air. It was years before another show really impacted my life. Twin Peaks was a phenominal piece of work. Dale Cooper, the singing midget and the armless man were the subjects of many cigaretter breaks during my theatre days. Not since Dynaty was I impressed with the shallowness and bitchiness of a show, then along came Melrose Place. Amanda and her roots always kept my attention. However, I was not impressed with the fag on this show. Addiction, being beaten up by a lover, and AIDS scare and just being a whimp did not make me want to say "hey, I'm a fag too." Growing up in Erie, with the lack of anything really to do, left my mind open for sci-fi adventures. So I've developed into something of a Treker. I'm still watching Star Trek in all it's incarnations. One other sci-fi show that I watch is Babylon5, In my opinion, B5 is one of the most original shows that has come to television in years. Well, then of course there is The X-Files. During my grad school days I was known for hosting some faboo X-File parties.
Something else that I must admit to is my love from trash t.v. ~ Jenny Jones and Jerry Springer. When I think that my life has bottomed out, leave it to Jerry and Jenny to show me that things could be alot worse ~ my mother, who used to be my father could be sleeping with his, er, her sister's husband who just happens to be a rather unattractive exotic dance crack head whi is a memeber of a white supremecy organization and was abducted my aliens. Thanks Jenny and Jerry!!!
